For a lont time, Samsung was your only good option for a good foldable phone in the United States.

Recently, that has changed, and surprisingly, the first-generation Motorola Razr Fold that launched just a few months earlier than the Fold 8 Ultra, offers a bigger battery and better camera hardware at a much lower price.

Sure, it uses a slightly slower processor, but unless you are into gaming, that probably won't matter all that much as both phones feel speedy enough in daily use. In this comparison, I went out to test the cameras specifically, so let's see if Motorola has made a better foldable camera phone than the Samsung from the very first try.

There is one thing that really stands out in this sheet: the sensor size for that telephoto camera. The Razr Fold uses a 1/1.95" sensor while the Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra goes with a nearly four times smaller 1/3.94" sensor. That puts the Galaxy at a huge disadvantage as there is no way to get good quality photos from such a tiny sensor, especially in lower light. It's just physics.

For the rest of the cameras, the hardware specs are close enough, so it should be an interesting battle.

The above two photos were captured at 10X zoom level.

The above picture is taken at 30X zoom.

At 100X zoom, the Motorola suffers from a really bad case of AI-fication as the text on the ship gets jumbled up.

The above two low-light photos were taken at the native 3X zoom on both phones.
