Rare promo turns the Garmin Forerunner 165 into a no-brainer

It's been more than a month since one of Garmin's best budget smartwatches was last on sale. But today, Amazon is once again bringing the Forerunner 165 under the $200 mark.

That's a solid 20% discount on the model's original asking price. However, the deal won't remain too long, so if you're looking for a multi-day wearable with great fitness tracking capabilities, now's your chance to save.

• Don't mind increasing your budget a bit? The Garmin Forerunner 265 is $100 off at Amazon right now, turning it into a surprisingly affordable option for many.

Still, for most users on a budget, the Forerunner 165 is a perfectly good choice. It's extremely lightweight and features an OLED touchscreen along with physical buttons, a combination found on many Garmin watches.

More importantly, it comes with incredibly accurate and reliable heart rate training and a slew of workout features. You can track your HIIT workouts, cycling, pilates and more. The wearable also offers sleep tracking and even Body Battery energy monitoring, giving you all the essential Garmin features.

That said, as my colleague Vic put it in our Forerunner 165 review, this model also has some limitations. It doesn't track triathlon workouts, and it lacks training readiness. This shouldn't be a dealbreaker for most users, but it's something to keep in mind nonetheless.

What about battery life? The Forerunner 165 can last as much as four days on a single charge (and that's with an always-on display, by the way.) As you can see, this smartwatch really checks a lot of boxes for the price.

If you ask me, the device is well worth it even at its full asking price. But when it's 20% cheaper, it's a total no-brainer. Get yours with Amazon's limited-time sale and save before it's too late.
