The next big thing in smartphone processors is just around the corner. Qualcomm's annual Snapdragon Summit is exactly one month away, and the company is already teasing its flagship chipsets. One of those will power the next Galaxy S27 Ultra.
The company posted a video on X, teasing the debut of two new 8 Elite chipsets. The launch is expected to happen on September 22, and we will get "twice the options" this year.
There's no mention of the exact models, but thanks to the rumor mill we know that these are the Snadpragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.
In the video, Qualcomm talks about “extraordinary” GPU performance and “immersive” gaming experiences, and we know we'll be getting those. Actually, we know almost everything about the upcoming Snadpragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.

The extensive leakage that's now a part of our smartphone reality gave us the specs of these two new chips. The Snadpragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro is expected to use TSMC's 2 nm node and rock an octa-core Oryon design (2+3+3).
The GPU is tipped to be a powerful Adreno 850 with 18MB of memory and LPDDR6 RAM support.
The non-pro version of the Snadpragon 8 Elite Gen 6 will apparently use a 3 nm manufacturing process, the same octa-core Oryon configuration, a more modest Adreno 845 GPU with 12 MB of RAM, and support for LPDDR5X RAM.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro scored a whopping 4.83 million points on AnTuTu, 4,388 points in single-core, and 14,273 points in multi-core performance in Geekbench in recent leaked test results.
Would you buy the Galaxy S27 Ultra at $1,300?

We expect the next non-folding flagship family to launch early next year and use Qualcomm silicon. It'd be interesting to see how Samsing distributes these new Snapdragon chips between the different models.
But I think the Galaxy S27 Ultra will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, and we might see the "for Galaxy" branding once again. As for the regular Galaxy S27, expect the non-Pro chip, mainly for cost-saving reasons. Speaking of the price.

The latest rumors put the price of this chip around $300, which is unprecedented for a smartphone chip and could lead to additional price hikes.
Speaking of which, the Galaxy S27 Ultra might cost a lot more next year, given the memory shortage and the high price of these new Snapdragon chips. Conversive predictions put the price tag of the Galaxy S27 Ultra around the $1,300 mark.
