Almost every other Android OEM has its own set of unique capabilities. For instance, you have Edge Panels in Galaxy smartphones that give you quick access to frequently used applications. Similarly, there's a Flip to Shhh feature that is exclusive to Google Pixel phones.
However, some Pixel users have recently reported that this very useful gesture is not working on their devices. There have also been reports that this capability is completely missing from the Settings menu. Fortunately, there's a working solution that appears to bring Flip to Shhh back on track.
Flip to Shhh has stopped functioning
Flip to Shhh is a Pixel-exclusive gesture that I have always found very useful. It was introduced way back in 2018 with the Pixel 3, and it basically allows you to instantly put your device into DND (Do Not Disturb) mode. Once you enable it by turning on its toggle in the settings menu, your Pixel phone will enter DND mode if you place it face down.
I always find myself using it when I don't want to be disturbed by calls and notifications during conversations or tense meetings. All that said, many users have reported that this feature is not working on their Pixel phone. Online reports suggest that the phone doesn't enter DND mode when placed face down, even when the Flip to Shhh gesture is enabled.

An affected user posted on Reddit that when the feature stopped working suddenly, they tried to turn it off and on again. However, their phone showed them a pop-up that says, "Can't turn on Flip to Shhh." The user further mentioned that they tried all the possible workarounds, like rebooting the device, clearing the cache and data, and a few more, but none of them turned out to be helpful in restoring the functionality of the Flip to Shhh gesture.

The option disappeared completely for some users
Shockingly, there are also reports that the feature disappeared completely on some Pixel phones. One user commented that after trying all the possible solutions, they noticed that Flip to Shhh went missing from the Settings menu. Related posts and comments indicate that the option actually disappears after its app data is cleared or its updates are uninstalled or reinstalled.

Many affected users mention that the problem completely disappeared after installing the latest update of the Digital Wellbeing app. This fix, however, doesn't work for everyone, as some apparently continue to face the issue on their Pixel phone despite updating the app.
Interestingly, there are also reports that installing the latest version of the Digital Wellbeing app fixes the Flip to Shhh gesture only temporarily. It breaks again after a few days of normal functioning. While not confirmed, some affected users believe that the August 2026 update for Pixel phones might be the culprit here, as the feature stopped working after installing it.
Google needs to release a permanent solution
I, personally, haven't faced this issue on my Pixel 10, so I can't confirm whether updating the Digital Wellbeing app actually helps get rid of the problem. However, if you find that the Flip to Shhh gesture isn't functioning on your Pixel phone, then you can definitely consider updating the app and checking if it makes any difference.
If not, then you have no option but to wait for Google to release a permanent fix. Until then, you will have to take the manual approach of enabling Do Not Disturb on your Pixel phone when you don't want to be disturbed by phone calls or notifications.
