New report reveals 'hidden' Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 selling points and upgrades
So you think you know everything there is to know about the Galaxy Z Flip 5 (and the Galaxy Z Fold 5) ahead of Samsung's next big Unpacked event in Seoul in "late July." But while that may seem like a fair assumption to make after a stream of highly detailed and highly trustworthy leaks originating many months ago, it's important to remember that you will never get the full picture of a phone's capabilities until you're able to hold it in your hands.

The next best thing, of course, is for professional reviewers to hold it in their hands and tell you what might escape the eye when looking at a cold and often misleading spec sheet. But while Z Flip 5 reviews are also still at least a few weeks away, one unnamed insider quoted by the English language edition of The Chosun Ilbo is ready to reveal a couple of key strengths that will only become obvious after the new foldable's launch.

Galaxy S23-level camera and battery life

If you were disappointed to hear that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is likely all but guaranteed to retain its predecessor's dual 12MP rear-facing camera arrangement, you may now be thrilled to find out that the real-life photography performance is expected to be "hugely improved with the help of software."

If you think that sounds a little vague and ultimately meaningless, you should know that the Korean newspaper's presumably reliable inside source ups the ante by also describing the Z Flip 5 camera capabilities and battery life as "matching the level of the Galaxy S23."

Now that is an ambitious and (slightly more) specific prediction that we'd absolutely love to see realized... although we're not convinced. While it's a known fact that megapixel counts are not everything in today's mobile industry and Samsung reportedly found it difficult to "boost camera pixels" on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 due to "space limitations", it's also hard to believe the company's software wizardry will completely make up for the technical differences between this next-gen foldable model and the Galaxy S23 family.

The "vanilla" 6.1-inch S23 and the plus-sized 6.6-inch S23+ share a triple shooter system on their back headlined by a 50MP sensor. That's clearly inferior to the 200 + 10 + 10 + 12MP quad camera setup on the S23 Ultra's rear, but if the Z Flip 5 were to indeed "match its level", that would represent a huge upgrade over the Z Flip 4's imaging skills.

As far as battery life is concerned, that was actually not a big problem for the Galaxy Z Flip 4, which brought a major improvement over its forerunners in the endurance department, already managing to eclipse the Galaxy S23 series in the video streaming chapter of our relevant tests.

But if the Z Flip 5 can further bump up those numbers without increasing the battery capacity, we're obviously all for it and even more excited for the sequel to the world's most popular foldable phone right now.
