The iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max — alongside the foldable iPhone Ultra — are mere days away from launch. Now, a new image has surfaced showing off the SIM trays of the iPhone 18 Pro models in the different colors that will be available at release, and I think that there’s a pretty clear answer for which one’s the best.

Previous reports have already claimed that the iPhone 18 Pro models will launch in a variation of black or gray, Sky Blue, and Dark Cherry. A highly trusted industry insider has corroborated these claims with an image showing someone holding iPhone 18 Pro SIM trays in the three new color options.
There is no information on the base iPhone 18 or a possible iPhone Air 2 as both models will, according to reports, launch early next year alongside the iPhone 18e.

Return of black for the iPhone?
Black, which seems to be the most popular color of choice for smartphones worldwide, was missing from the iPhone 17 Pro models last year. If black is indeed making a comeback with the iPhone 18 Pro, then it would be a very welcome return.
However, with the way the SIM tray on the far left looks in the image, I, personally, feel like this is probably a gray color option instead. There is also the slight possibility that this is silver, which reports have claimed was canceled for the iPhone 18 Pro.

That's not to say that the absence of a black color option hindered the iPhone 17 series in any way. After all, these were the best-selling phones of 2026 and prior, even in the second quarter of this year when the Samsung Galaxy S26 series had arrived on scene.

Will Dark Cherry steal the spotlight?

The new standout color option this year is what leaks have revealed will be called Dark Cherry, a much softer successor to last year’s bombastic Cosmic Orange. Public reception to Dark Cherry has been a mixed bag, though I assume that it will grow on people just as quickly as the iPhone 17 Pro redesign did.

Is there honestly any other acceptable answer? | Image by Jon Rettinger
Personally, I think that Dark Cherry looks great. It appeals a lot more to me than previous standout colors like Cosmic Orange or Desert Titanium ever did.
And if there really isn’t a black color option, then Dark Cherry, to my mind, is the easiest choice in a very long time.
