After launching the Moto Buds 2 and Moto Buds 2 Plus in the beginning of the year, Motorola expanded its earbuds portfolio with the Moto Buds 2 in the summer. Now, the company is announcing what it says are the best-sounding Moto Buds yet, called the Moto Buds Ultra 27, coming alongside the Moto Watch Fit 27 and the Motorola Signature 27.
Motorola’s Moto Buds Ultra 27 come with a dual-driver design and Sound by Bose
Motorola just announced the new Moto Buds Ultra 27, which will be the company’s new flagship earbuds. Set to launch in North America “in the coming months,” they feature Sound by Bose with various technologies that are promising to provide a better listening experience.
Similar to the Moto Buds 2 Plus, the internal design of the Buds Ultra 27 features two drivers. One of them is an 11mm dynamic driver, while the other is a smaller, dedicated balanced armature by Knowles.

The buds come with Bose SoundDesign tuning, Bose QuietControl active noise cancellation, and High-Res Audio support. Motorola says the tuning and drivers offer high-quality sound, which works equally well for watching movies and listening to music. When paired with compatible Motorola smartphones, they also get Dolby Atmos and spatial audio support with Dolby Head Tracking, which add extra immersion to the experience and greater clarity, depth, and detail to entertainment content.

With the Moto Buds Ultra 27, Motorola is also catching up to the competition with some new smart features. There’s an AirPods Pro 3-rivaling AI Live Translate feature, which offers real-time translations and works only with certain Motorola phones. The company also promises that users will be able to call its Qira assistant with a “Hey Qira” voice command in the coming months.
The Moto Buds Ultra 27 will also be the first Motorola earbuds to get Head Gesture support, matching premium models like the AirPods 4 and the Galaxy Buds 4 series. Similar to the way this feature works on other models, you'll be able to accept or reject calls with just a nod or a shake of the head, giving another option for hands-free option.
Motorola seems to be very serious about the audio quality during voice capture, promising improved quality thanks to the three high-SNR microphones and dedicated Voice Pickup Unit (VPU) inside each bud. The company says this will provide voice recording quality high enough not just for calls, but also for recording voiceover for videos and podcasts.
Competitive battery live

When it comes to the details, the Moto Buds Ultra 27 stay true to their name. The battery should offer up to 8 hours of continuous playback on a single charge and up to 37 hours in total with the charging case. If you're out of juice, you will be able to get up to 3 hours of playback by putting the buds inside the case for a quick 10-minute charge. The case itself also comes with Qi2 wireless charging support.
The buds feature IP57 protection, which keeps them safe from some larger particles, splashes, and brief submersion in fresh water. They’ll be available in PANTONE Temple Gray and PANTONE Reflecting Pond colors, with the former having a gold accent on the stem of the buds, while the latter looks like a nice deep blue.
We need to wait for the price
While Motorola has shared most details about the Moto Buds Ultra 27, we still don’t know when they’re launching, and more importantly, how much they’ll cost. I think the $249 price tags of the AirPods Pro 3 and the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro might be a good reference.
On the other hand, the Moto Buds 2 Plus launched at $149.99, so a $100 gap with it might be too much. Either way, I wouldn’t expect anything under $199, but we’ll need to wait for this part of the announcement.
