The renders of the Galaxy S27 Ultra have been circulating in the market for a few weeks now. Now, Android Headlines have used those renders to create a dummy unit of the upcoming Ultra phone.
A closer look at the Galaxy S27 Ultra design
The surface renders have already confirmed that Samsung is very likely to change the look of the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The new dummy unit gives a more detailed look at the new design. Compared to Galaxy S26 Ultra, the upcoming phone is reported to have a new camera bar, which is reportedly also placed slightly higher than this year's model.
In fact, if you observe closely, you will find the rear panel looks very similar to the recently unveiled iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Another thing worth noting in the dummy unit is that the camera bar features one less camera compared to the current model. The reason behind this is that there are rumors that Sammy might not offer a 3x telephoto lens in its upcoming Ultra phone.
The tech giant is reportedly adding an elevated bump on the top of the camera bar. The S Pen continues to sit on the bottom left. Next to it are cuttings for other stuff like the SIM tray, USB-C port, and the speakers. The power and volume buttons are available on the right side.

Samsung is apparently fixing a big design flaw

Unlike the Pixel phones like the Pixel 11 Pro, the Galaxy smartphones don't feature built-in Qi2 magnets. While it is still unclear whether the upcoming Ultra model of the S family would offer this feature, the placement of the new camera bar suggests that Samsung is looking to address the wireless charging problems that some users have been facing.
For reference, the Galaxy S26 Ultra could be charged wirelessly using magnetic accessories, though some users face problems in the process due to the large camera bump. It reportedly interferes with the magnetic accessory, causing improper alignment, which eventually leads to other issues like slow charging and high temperature while charging.
The Galaxy S27 Ultra camera bar, which has a new design and also appears to be placed slightly higher, would likely resolve the wireless charging issue. The new placement apparently leaves adequate space for magnetic accessories to fit, presumably eliminating the wireless charging problem in the current models.
The Galaxy S27 Ultra redesign is not everyone's favorite
While the new horizontal camera bar design appears to solve a major wireless charging flaw of the current models, a good number of users are apparently not liking it. When the first render surfaced, we asked our readers whether Samsung should adopt the design. Among 2956 voters, 50.41% said that the new look appears ugly.

A similar sentiment can be found on community forums like Reddit as well. Under a relevant post, one user commented that the new design looks terrible. Another user mentioned that, "It looks like an Oppo/OnePlus meets iPhone and not in a good way." Some users also believe that it is a literal copy of Honor 600.
Other notable changes in the Galaxy S27 Ultra dummy unit
Android Headlines mentions in its report that the dummy unit doesn't wobble much as compared to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. It's worth noting, though, that the dummy weight is likely very different from what the actual weight of the real Galaxy S27 Ultra would be. So at the moment, it wouldn't be right to conclude that the upcoming phone sits more steadily on a flat surface than the current model.
The dimension of the smartphone is reportedly not changing much. It measures 163.76 x 78.25 x 7.97 mm, which is almost identical to the current Ultra variant.
I like the design, but not completely
It's been some time since Samsung has been offering the vertical camera bar on its Ultra phones. So the redesign was very likely to happen, and I really like the new look but not completely. My problem with the reported design is that despite having a big-sized camera island, the camera lenses appear to be still sticking out.
Sammy appears to have taken inspiration from the latest iPhones, but it is worth pointing out that Apple balances the camera island with a flash and another sensor on the other side. But the surfaced renders and dummy units suggest that there's nothing on the one side of the island. That makes me wonder how steady the device would be on a flat surface compared to the iPhones with almost a similar design.
