Motorola's Android 17 rollout is (slowly) reaching Razr Ultra (2025) and Edge 70 Fusion users

Two popular Motorola devices are reportedly receiving the latest and greatest Android version in its stable form in certain parts of the world.

While Samsung has undoubtedly become the global champion of Android 17 updates over the last few weeks (in terms of both stability and the rollout's scale), a number of other companies seem to be engaged in a very tight battle for the unofficial silver and bronze medals.

Of those, Motorola arguably got the upper hand over the likes of Sony and Nothing with a quartet of official OS promotions earlier this month, and now the number of Moto devices capable of leaving Android 16 behind in at least certain parts of the world is further boosted to six.

Last year's Razr Ultra is timidly starting its switch to Android 17

For the time being, there are only a few Razr Ultra (2025) owners in the US who claim they've gotten the latest OS version as an over-the-air upgrade, as well as a bunch of others that say they haven't been quite as lucky yet.

That probably means it's going to take Motorola several more weeks to spread the stable Android 17 love across the nation for the Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered Razr Ultra (2025), not to mention around the world for an equivalent Razr 60 Ultra model.

If you think that's a pessimistic prediction on my part, keep in mind that the first-gen Signature reportedly started receiving Android 17 goodies more than two weeks ago, and some users have yet to score the over-the-air upgrade, resorting to PC downloads or merely continuing to wait for their official invitation to this slowly expanding party.

As highlighted by an official Motorola Reddit account, foldables like the Razr Fold and Razr Ultra (2025) require "extended development time" to ensure "seamless app transitions between the cover and inner displays", which explains why the former book-style powerhouse is still stuck on Android 16 worldwide and the latter flip phone is so timidly kicking off its Android 17 rollout. Of course, that hasn't really been the case for Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, Z Fold 5, and Z Flip 5.

The Edge 70 Fusion is clearly getting a wider-scale update

Over the last three days or so, Motorola's dedicated Reddit page has amassed more than a dozen threads featuring over a hundred (according to my estimations) comments from (largely pleased) Edge 70 Fusion users in a bunch of Asian and European countries.

This is definitely a testament to both the global popularity of the 6.78-inch mid-ranger released earlier this year and the rapid spread of the Edge 70 Fusion's Android 17 update, especially compared to the likes of the aforementioned Razr Ultra (2025) and Motorola Signature.

The Edge 70 Fusion also has a detailed official changelog that lists and explains all the Android 17 tweaks and improvements its users are either already enjoying or can expect to enjoy very soon, but although said changelog looks pretty lengthy at first glance, many Redditors are underwhelmed or outright disappointed with the update's "minimal changes and missing features."

Not everything is well when it ends well

While a lot of Motorola users seem relatively happy with the stability of the long-awaited Android 17 updates for their Edge 70 Fusion, Signature, Edge 60 Fusion, or Edge 60 Pro units, there's also a concerning number of complaints already of unusually fast battery drain.

That's something quite a few early One UI 9 adopters have faced as well, so it's starting to look like Samsung was not really to blame for that.

The problem that's clearly bothering by far the largest number of Edge 70 Fusion owners, however, is a key missing feature that the Signature and Edge 60 Pro got in their Android 17 goodie packs. Unfortunately, it appears that's not a bug or an unintentional omission on Motorola's part, but rather the result of a "deliberate choice" that saw the lock screen depth effect "intentionally excluded from the stable release for Fusion models and reserved specifically" for the company's "premium flagship and foldable devices."
