The next Razr could be the flip-phone of the dreams, if this leak comes true and Motorola rises to the challenge

Be honest: do you think the next Razr will be a gamechanger?

Motorola appears to be moving a bit closer to launch its next-gen flip phone. While the Razr (2026) launched less than a year ago, prominent leaker Abhishek Yadav just spotted an FCC listing for what appears to be the brand's upcoming Razr model, giving us an early glimpse into the model names and some specs.

This is what you can expect from the Razr (2027)

While the FCC listing doesn't exclusively reveal the Razr (2027) name, model numbers T2761-1, XT2761-2, XT2761-3 and XT2761V suggest the device in question could indeed be the upcoming budget-friendly foldable phone.

The report also shows "Flip Open" and "Flip Close" modes, further indicating the listing is about a clamshell foldable phone rather than a book-like model.

The more curious part about the FCC report is that it gives us some insights into the hardware of the upcoming device. The Razr (2027) may support Wi-Fi 7 and 5G with n41, n78 and n77 bands. Also, Ultra Wideband (UWB) support could enable tracking of accessories like the AirTag or allow the phone to double up as a digital car key.

Like last year's Razr (2026), the upcoming phone could feature NFC for contactless payments and wireless charging support. In addition, it may come with a Qualcomm processor, though the exact chipset remains a mystery for now.

A complete gamechanger?

The FCC report shows the Razr (2027) might come with some changes over the Razr (2026), but at this stage, we don't know just how different the two phones will be. Based on the information we have so far, the first potential change is a switch to a Qualcomm chipset.

Since the Razr (2024), Motorola has equipped the budget-friendly device with a MediaTek Dimensity chip, so this could be a meaningful upgrade. While we're yet to find out which Qualcomm silicon may eventually power the upcoming flip phone, one thing is clear: it could bring a serious performance boost and turn the budget-friendly into much more than just a fashion statement.

Another change is the UWB and Wi-Fi 7 support, compared to Wi-Fi 6E and no UWB on last year's Razr (2026).

Will it launch soon?

FCC listings don't always emerge at a fixed point before the launch of a new phone. But based on what we've seen so far, reports from US regulators usually arrive roughly one to three months before launch.

The Razr (2026) debuted in April 2026, which could indicate the upcoming Razr (2027) might actually launch earlier than its predecessor. And yet, it's too early to try and predict the Motorola release schedule.

Here's where I stand

While Motorola has released multiple budget Razr models, I think the Razr (2027) might finally become a flip phone for the masses, not just those on a budget. Compared to Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, the upcoming Motorola phone could offer a radically richer value proposition.

With a Snapdragon chip under the hood and, hopefully, other changes where it matters most, the Razr (2027) could end up being one of the most compelling options for foldable phone fans looking for power, style, and great overall value at a genuinely decent price.
