Samsung is simply unstoppable, spreading the One UI 9 love far and wide for over a dozen phones

The number of Galaxy devices that are being upgraded to Android 17-based One UI 9 right now around the world is absolutely mind-blowing.

After a very shaky start a little over a month ago that saw Samsung miss a few self-imposed deadlines for some of its most popular Android devices released in the last few years, the global One UI 9 rollout accelerated so impressively that I knew multiple updates were coming this week.

Based on a pattern I noticed with phones as diverse as the Galaxy S24, A57, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, A37, and A56 over the last couple of weeks, I also strongly suspected Samsung had plans to expand certain goodie packs around the world this Monday and kick off a bunch of other over-the-air deliveries in the company's homeland today, but I never imagined the extent of this latest wave of updates.

These are all the devices that are getting One UI 9 this week... so far

  • Galaxy A07 in Iran;
  • Galaxy Wide 8 (aka Galaxy M16) in South Korea;
  • Galaxy A16 (4G LTE and 5G variants) in South Korea;
  • Galaxy A17 (4G LTE and 5G variants) in South Korea;
  • Galaxy A55 in South Korea;
  • Galaxy A35 in South Korea;
  • Galaxy M36 in South Korea;
  • Galaxy Z Fold 5 in Europe and the US;
  • Galaxy Z Flip 5 in Europe and the US;
  • Galaxy A36 in Europe and the US;
  • Galaxy A37 in the US;
  • Galaxy A56 in the Middle East;
  • Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra in Europe;
  • Galaxy A27 in Europe;
  • Galaxy A37 in Europe.

It's only Wednesday

To be perfectly clear, that's just this week's list, and it adds to a group of around two dozen other Galaxy handsets upgraded to the latest Android version (with the newest One UI iteration on top) pretty much around the world in previous weeks.

It's equally as important to highlight that the list of countries and regions above is preliminary and subject to change (read major expansion) at any point after the publication of this article. That being said, I don't expect any of the updates started in South Korea today to go global by Friday, but that's definitely likely to happen early next week.

Another key detail to keep in mind is that some of those European or US rollouts might not reach everyone in said regions by the end of this week either, especially if you happen to live stateside and use an unlocked Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, A36, or A37 unit.

Not all Samsung fans are likely to be happy with that list

In case you haven't noticed, there are exactly zero tablets among the Galaxy devices bumped up to Android 17 and One UI 9 this week. That's definitely a little bizarre, but what's even stranger is that Samsung hasn't brought any slates up to date with the likes of the Galaxy S26, S25, A36, and A27 over the last month or so either.

That means the humble MediaTek Helio G99-powered Galaxy A07 with 1600 x 720 screen resolution (and a notch) is capable of running a newer (and, hopefully, bug-free) OS version (in at least one country) than the ultra-high-end Galaxy Tab S11 and Tab S11 Ultra, which is... beyond weird and presumably incredibly frustrating for those of you who paid a small fortune for a 14.6-inch Dimensity 9400+ super-flagship with Android 16-based One UI 8.5 out the box.

The Galaxy A07, remember, was released with Android 15 pre-installed last year, while something like the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 came running Android 14 initially in 2024 and the S23 family is already on its fourth (and final) major OS promotion. And that, my friends and dear readers, is why Samsung is the (non-Google) software support champion of the Android ecosystem... even if the company isn't able to achieve perfection and please everyone either.
