The pre-orders for the iPhone Duo were an unsurprising disaster, but it appears that’s only one of the major issues with the new foldable. With the first lucky owners getting their devices, it turns out that durability issues are way more common than anyone would’ve hoped for. This could make the most popular answer in one of our recent surveys also the smartest.
Not everyone is buying an iPhone Duo
Shortly before the pre-orders for the first foldable iPhone opened, we reported that there would be issues, and asked you if you plan to buy an iPhone Duo. Even though we didn’t know about the magnitude of the issues with the pre-orders yet, the vast majority of you, or about 56%, said you didn’t plan on buying Apple’s foldable.
When do you plan to buy an iPhone Duo?
554 Votes
The least popular answer, chosen by just over 11% of you, was that you may get the Duo later. Considering how the launch has been going, it wouldn’t be a surprise that many of the people who picked this answer have decided against the purchase. Still, a third of you, or about 33%, said that they were pre-ordering the iPhone Duo, which was just another sign of the popularity of the foldable.
Things didn’t go well for Apple

Just like every other first-generation product, the iPhone Duo comes with some undeniable issues. What may come as a surprise, especially for the more dedicated Apple fans, is the magnitude of the problems. The pre-orders disaster appears to have been only the beginning, which could be just the result of a surprising demand.
This wouldn’t have been such a big deal if screen replacements didn’t cost $999 out of warranty. To make things even worse, Apple appears to be refusing to cover the issue for at least some iPhone Duo buyers. Suddenly, the hesitant two-thirds of you appear to have taken the right decision.
Patience is a virtue
I understand how exciting it is to be among the first people in the world to own a brand new iPhone, and I wouldn’t deny anyone this type of pleasure. Still, I don’t think many people can afford to practically lose $1,999 on a faulty first-gen device, even if it’s extremely cool.
Waiting a bit to see what are this phone’s issues and how those issues are solved requires patience, but it feels like the best decision for most people. Hopefully, Apple will fix and address everything before the iPhone Duo 2 comes out.
