I think the iPhone 18 Pro and the foldable iPhone will be bestsellers regardless of the price

With only a few hours left before the official launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and the foldable iPhone, pricing is one of the few major things we still don’t know much about. However, this may not be as important as many would’ve believed, especially when we talk about the foldable model.

Almost everyone seems to want a new iPhone

We recently reported on leaks that suggested a much more modest price increase for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, alongside a relatively low price for the foldable iPhone. We used the occasion to ask you, our readers, which of the new devices made you the most excited, and the responses were surprising.

While the most of you, or a bit over 30%, said that you’re not excited about any of the new devices, this is hardly bad news for Apple. In fact, this clearly shows that nearly 70% of you find the new iPhone models intriguing enough, regardless of the price increase.

What’s even more interesting is that over 28% of you are most excited about none other than the most expensive model in the upcoming trio. The foldable iPhone edges out even the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which is slightly behind with 27.6% of your votes at the time of writing. The smaller iPhone 18 Pro is the least intriguing model of the bunch, exciting for only 13.7% of you.

Apple will sell a ton of expensive iPhones this fall

The most dedicated Apple fans, the ones who buy an iPhone as soon as it launches, were always attracted by the best model of the bunch. Last year, the iPhone 17 Pro Max was the best-selling model, before the vanilla iPhone 17 beat it months after both premiered.

This year, there won’t be an iPhone 18, so anyone who wants a new Apple phone will have to go Pro or wait until the spring. I would’ve expected for this to put many people off the new models, but apparently about 70% of you aren’t bothered by this.

With the rising smartphone prices, this may not be such a big surprise. Cheap smartphones are disappearing, and the mid-range devices are inching ever closer to flagship prices. In such an environment, it makes sense to spend a little more for a proper flagship and hold it for a year longer than an “affordable” flagship.

Then there are the more practical reasons. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to have larger batteries, intriguing camera upgrades, including more advanced camera controls, a nice new color, and an exciting new chipset. Even if it's a bit more expensive, all this may be worth it.

The foldable iPhone may have a great moment, too

With the success of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, we can safely assume that many people truly enjoy the new wide foldable form factor. This means even better news for Apple, as the foldable iPhone will be its first brand-new type of device in a very long time.

Apparently, all this makes the new phones worth splurging on. I’m personally excited to replace my aging phone, but after seeing these results, I won’t be surprised if I see even people with much newer devices opt for an upgrade.
