Google's next Fitbit leaks with an advantage no Pixel Watch or Apple Watch can match

The Fitbit Edge borrows Pixel colors, but its real advantage is hiding in a leaked chart.

Everything points to Google releasing another fitness band this year and according to a new leak, it will be called the Fitbit Edge. This new batch of leaked images shows this new device is poised to fill the gap between the screenless Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch 5, as it shows that it brings a screen, GPS, up to 7 days of battery, and it appears to work whether you carry a Pixel 11 Pro or an iPhone 18 Pro Max.

The images come from a new report, and they line up with the mystery band Google slipped into its own Pixel 11 ads back in August, which we spotted at the time.

The band has an oval screen in a two-tone frame, a long button on its side and a sensor array on the back that looks closer to the Fitbit Air's than the Pixel Watch 5's. It uses pinch buttons for swapping bands, and it comes in black, green and a peachy orange (pink?) that appear to match the Pixel 11 Pro's Obsidian, Olive and Canyon colors.

According to the report, the Edge keeps the Charge formula of notifications and a few apps, namely Google Maps, music controls and Find My Phone. It also adds built-in GPS, an altimeter and automatic activity recognition.

Fitbit Edge vs. Fitbit Air, Pixel Watch 5 and Galaxy Fit 3

The Edge is aimed at people who find the Fitbit Air a bit too bare, but don't want to pay for a full smartwatch or charge one almost every day. The report guesses it will cost between $149 and $199 (a guess, not part of the leak), which would put it neatly between the $99.99 Air and the $399 Pixel Watch 5.

The closest rival is probably the Galaxy Fit 3, which offered most of the smartwatch basics for $60 in our Galaxy Fit 3 review. However, it only works with Android phones, and in that same review we pointed buyers toward the Fitbit Charge 6 while noting its GPS wasn't very reliable either.

The Pixel Watch 5 is Android-only too, and it lasts 30 to 40 hours depending on size, compared to the Edge's reported 7 days. So Galaxy Fit 3 and Pixel Watch 5 owners have no real reason to switch, but Fitbit Air owners who keep grabbing their phone to check stats might want to keep an eye on this one.

Why iPhone owners should care about the Fitbit Edge

The leaked chart lists the Edge as working with Android 11 or later and iOS 16.4 or later, the same as the Fitbit Air. An Apple Watch, on the other hand, needs an iPhone 11 or later, so it stops being an option the day you switch to Android.

That flexibility carries over to your data, too. Google Health lets you download your history through Google Takeout and export GPS workouts as standard files, while Apple Health has no Android app, so years of sleep and step data can follow you to whatever phone comes next.

A middle-ground Fitbit worth waiting for

If it lands at $199, it starts competing with a budget smartwatch. But if Google keeps it closer to $149, I'd happily recommend it to my iPhone-owning friends who want a break from the Apple Watch without leaving their health data behind.
