The iPhone Air 2, the base iPhone 18, and the iPhone 18e are the three devices Apple enthusiasts must be looking forward to now that the company has officially launched the iPhone 18 Pro phones and the iPhone Duo. It was quite recently reported that the iPhone 18e would likely feature a 60 Hz display. Now a new leak from a really highly trusted source suggests that the iPhone Air 2 could receive three huge upgrades over the original.
Powerful A-series processor
According to the tipster Digital Chat Station, the iPhone Air 2 is going to feature the Apple A20 series chipset. It's the same 2 nm process-based SoC that the company introduced with its recently launched iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo smartphones. If the claim turns out to be true, it will be a big jump from the last year's model that runs on the 3 nm A19 Pro processor.
Which big upgrade do you really want to see in the iPhone Air 2?

Get ready for the second camera
The original iPhone only features a single 48 MP camera at the back. Despite being a 2025-released device, the single rear camera approach gives the iPhone Air the look of the iPhone SE 3 that was released in 2022.
That's fortunately changing, as the next slim phone from Apple is reportedly getting a dual camera setup at the back. In addition to the main 48 MP shooter, you could also get a secondary 48 MP ultra-wide lens, according to Digital Chat Station.
A bigger battery
The original iPhone Air features a 3149 mAh battery, which is surely a very small capacity when you consider the $1,099 price of the device. DCS, however, claims that the tech giant could give a boost to the battery number of the upcoming iPhone Air 2, though they did not share the exact numbers. A previous report hints that the capacity could be around 3,500 mAh.

That's definitely not a big jump, but it is still better than the previous model. Also, combined with the latest A20 chipset and software improvements, the upcoming phone could see a significant improvement in its run time.
Other rumored specifications of the iPhone Air 2
The upcoming slim phone from Apple is reported to get even slimmer. The original is 5.6 mm thick, but the next model is reported to have a thickness of 5.2 mm.
The N2 wireless chip and C2 modem are also reported to be used in the device. Furthermore, you could expect a 6.55-inch flat OLED screen that will offer a 1.5K+ resolution and support a 120 Hz refresh rate.
There's still uncertainty on one important upgrade
While all the above upgrades do sound promising, there is not yet any strong evidence that suggests whether the device will feature a second speaker. For reference, the original iPhone Air comes with a single mono speaker, and it really affects its sound quality. Many users have mentioned the lack of dual speakers as one of the biggest demerits of the device.

Under a relevant post, a user commented that the single speaker will start bothering you after a while. In our in-house review as well, we found the audio quality of the device not as good as other iPhones with dual speakers.
The iPhone Air 2 is shaping up to be a serious upgrade over its predecessor
In our in-house review, we found three main problems with the iPhone Air. It was often running hot during heavy loads, and the unavailability of a second camera and speaker really bothered us. Fortunately, Apple could address two of these concerns if the rumors of the 2 nm A20 chip and dual camera turn out to be true.
The only thing that might continue to affect users' experience with the upcoming iPhone Air 2 is the expected unavailability of the second speaker. That said, I really hope that Apple surprises us by delivering a dual stereo speaker system in the device. Whether it will happen or not is something we will find out in spring 2027 when the phone is likely to launch.
