Thought the Galaxy S27 would actually bring an upgrade on the charging speed front? I've got conclusive proof that you may have to tone down your expectations. According to the latest regulatory certification, the upcoming Android phone may stick to the same charging speeds vanilla models have had since the Galaxy S20.
Same charging speeds for the Galaxy S27

Now, we have more evidence for that, which seems to prove the upcoming "vanilla" flagship indeed won't support faster charging.
The latest certification issued by UL Solutions (Demko) and published in IECEE's database lists several Galaxy S27 variants (SM-S952U, SM-S952U1, SM-S952W, SM-S9520, SC-51H SM-S952Q, SM-S952Z), all of which support 9V DC at 2.77A.
That translates roughly to 25W, the same charging speed that debuted on the Galaxy S20 back in 2020 when it launched.
Should the Galaxy S27 exist?

What about the higher-end models?
Last week, my colleague Alan talked at length about China's 3C certification on the Galaxy S27 Pro and the S27 Ultra. The ultimate flagship is expected to pack a 5,700mAh battery, while Samsung's first-ever Pro model may pack a 5,200mAh cell under the hood. Both devices could support 60W charging.

If these battery specs for the higher-end models are true, the Galaxy S27 could end up looking like an even bigger compromise. Not just next to its own siblings either: the Pixel 11 and the iPhone 17 both support faster charging speeds.
Samsung prepares a Galaxy S27 model we may not even need

For some users, the Galaxy S27 may be the perfect choice with its relatively decent asking price (compared to the other Galaxy S models) and compact size.
But if Samsung doesn't really bring enough meaningful upgrades to the scene, it could be much harder to recommend the Galaxy S27, especially when it shares a key spec with the now-ancient Galaxy S20.
If I have to be completely honest, I'm starting to wonder why the Galaxy S27 even exists. Now that Samsung is pulling out all the stops to counter chipflation, including reducing Galaxy A production numbers, why not consider removing the S27 from the equation, too? I mean, if it doesn't bring enough upgrades, why release the phone in the first place?
