Pixel users might soon have an improved experience when using their phone to converse during their morning and evening commute. Android Authority did a deep dive into the Pixel Phone app, version 245.0.1006864670-publicbeta-pixel2026, and discovered the mention of something new: "BeeslyTransitModeService."

What Transit mode does for compatible Pixel handsets

Transit mode for Pixel was created for commuting. It allows a Pixel user to, with one tap, manage notifications, control Bluetooth settings, make adjustments to sound profiles, all while traveling on a train, bus, or car. Available for the Pixel 7 and later, you can set it up by going to Settings > Modes > Transit.

Pixel's Take a Message feature also figures in the new commute-friendly option

"Beesly" is Google's internal codename for its "Take a Message" feature. With this feature, a missed or declined call is automatically answered, and the caller's voicemail is transcribed on the user's screen. As the caller speaks, you can read the live transcript, and anytime you want to pick up the call, you can tap Answer.

Android Authority discovered some strings of code that said things like, "Taking a message-In Transit mode," and "Transit mode enabled, attempting to start Beesly." Since Transit mode already gives Pixel users the ability to show incoming call notifications from certain contacts, what would be the point of including this new feature?

It would seem that the new feature would allow those who don't want to have a message enabled all the time to have it turned on if they want to avoid certain calls while commuting on a bus, train, or car.

Here's an example showing why you might need the feature that Google is working on when commuting to and from work

For example, let's say that you're working on the Anderson deal for your employer, Spacely Space Sprockets, and you want to be in contact with the office most of the time. On the other hand, while sitting on a train for your morning commute from Boston to New York, you don't want to get involved in a phone conversation that other commuters might listen in on.

This new feature would automatically turn Take a Message on when your Pixel is in Transit mode, allowing you to see a transcript of a voicemail from the office while it is being typed in real time. It also gives you the opportunity to jump into the call if necessary to explain that you will call back once you're off the train.

Google also plans on saving you a step when you switch your incoming call gesture

Some images posted by Android Authority appear to show that Google plans on saving you a step when switching your incoming call gesture. Currently, you have to open up the box that shows your current choice before you're allowed to change it. That will soon change, as you will receive the toggle right away, giving you the chance to switch to a Horizontal swipe to answer a call with a single tap, or vice versa, without having to review the current configuration first.

As stated, this saves you a tap, which you might think is not such a big deal. However, it does symbolize what Google is always looking to do with its Pixel phones and Android. The goal is to save users a step here and a step there so that you can receive the info you need in a little more timely fashion.

Honestly, this is what I love about Pixel smartphones and the Android operating system. That's not to say everything is perfect, but as far as Google is concerned, the intent to save you steps and time is always there.
