Development on the Galaxy S27 series seems to be moving along nicely, with Samsung already testing the underlying operating system. However, the timing hints that Samsung's next flagships might arrive a little later than usual.

One UI 9.5 testing begins

Samsung's recently launched Galaxy Z Fold 8 duo and Flip 8 are the first to ship with the stable, Android 17-based One UI 9. The next massive update, One UI 9.5, will make its debut alongside the Galaxy S27 lineup.

The company has started testing the next version on the Galaxy S27, per leaker Tarun Vats. The firmware entries give credibility to the rumors that the Galaxy S27, S27+, and S27 Ultra will be joined by the Galaxy S27 Pro.

Running a little late

The first One UI 8.5 test builds for the Galaxy S26 series appeared on July 25 last year, meaning Samsung is running behind schedule this year. Whether this means the Galaxy S27 will be launched a little later isn't known.

For context, the Galaxy S26 was announced on February 25 and went on sale on March 6.

Still waiting for the public One UI 9 rollout

Samsung kicked off the One UI 9 beta for the Galaxy S26 in mid-May, but the stable version hasn't been deployed yet to eligible devices other than new foldables. That should change once the new devices hit the shelves on August 7.

The update brings visual and security updates, such as new creative tools for the Notes app, a more customizable Quick Panel, enhanced protection against shady apps, a dedicated Google Search bar on the homescreen, and a new AI Assistant Activity dashboard.

Not much is known about One UI 9.5

For now, we only know that Samsung has begun preparing firmware for the Galaxy S27. The firmware build number was obfuscated, so nothing is known about what One UI 9.5 will bring to the table.

We do know quite a bit about the Galaxy S27, though. For instance, the Pro model will likely slot below the Ultra. The Galaxy S27 Ultra might not be as speedy as previously reported, and camera improvements are headed to the entire lineup.
