The mid-range Galaxy A58 is rumored to put the Galaxy S27 to shame once again

You may be better off with the Galaxy A58 than the Galaxy S27 if you prefer higher charging speeds.

Rumors about the Galaxy S27 series keep revealing more details about the flagship phones, but we’re also expecting the new Galaxy A series to arrive sometime in the beginning of 2027. A new leak has revealed extra details about the battery of the Galaxy A58, making it feel like a disturbing tradition may continue for another year.

Galaxy A58 is rumored to get the same fast charging as the Galaxy A57

While the Galaxy A58 isn’t expected to launch before at least February 2027, the leaks are already revealing several key details about it. The latest report was shared by @ZionsAvin on X, revealing that the mid-ranger could support up to 45W charging.

The information comes from a listing for the device with model number SM-A5860 in the Chinese certification body C3’s database. While not confirmed by Samsung, this detail makes sense, as it would mean the new model will stick to the same charging speed as its predecessors.

Once again, the Galaxy A58 may charge at faster speeds than the flagship

With 45W charging, the Galaxy A58 will match both the Galaxy A57 and the Galaxy A56 before it, but it’ll also continue the tradition for the mid-ranger to charge faster than the base flagship models. The Galaxy S26, just like the Galaxy S25, charges with up to 25W, and rumors about the Galaxy S27 suggest its charging speed will remain the same.

What’s missing from this leak is information about the battery capacity on the A58. While the last two models both packed 5,000 mAh batteries, this one could finally get a silicon-carbon battery with higher capacity. We’ll need to wait for this to get confirmed, though.

There’s a non-zero chance that the practical difference between the two phones won’t be that big. In our battery tests, the charging times of the Galaxy A57 were largely the same as those of the Galaxy S26, which has a smaller 4,300 mAh battery.

Apparently this metric is more important for Samsung, as the A57 charges marginally slower than the Galaxy S26+, which also supports 45W charging, but has a slightly smaller 4,900 mAh battery. The difference between the two 6.7-inch models is that the flagship lasts noticeably longer than the mid-ranger, despite the smaller battery.

The Galaxy A58 may not be a very exciting upgrade

Though there are not many of them yet, the rumors about the Galaxy A58 aren’t exactly exciting. We’ve already heard that the device is likely to stick to the same camera system as its predecessor. That includes the same 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide camera, and 5MP macro snapper.

Leaving the lack of telephoto camera aside, this is unlikely to change the verdict on the camera performance. In his in-depth review of the Galaxy A57, my colleague Victor said the camera was “just average,” which is not bad but neither is great.

With a very low chance for a redesign or any other significant upgrade, the only noticeable change is expected to be an upgraded chipset. Considering the previous models, the A58 is most likely going to use the follow-up to the Exynos 1680, which powered the A57.

All this wouldn’t matter all that much if there were no rumors about another round of price hikes. The starting price of the Galaxy A58 is rumored to go to as much as $699, with more optimistic forecasts putting the base at $649. While cheaper than the flagship models, which may also see even higher prices, this could directly clash with the Galaxy S26 FE, which launched at $699.

It's a matter of priorities

I know the numbers game is extremely important for some people, but apparently that's not the case with Samsung. The company seems to target a charging time of a bit over an hour, regardless of whether we're talking mid-range or flagship phones. I'd much rather have faster charging when being charged extra for a flagship phone, but at the end of the day it's a matter of priorities, and I don't think this one is such a big deal.
