Verizon is the first US carrier to start long overdue Android Pie delivery for LG G7 ThinQ
According to Google's recently refreshed (after a long time) Android distribution chart, only a little over 10 percent of active devices running the world's most popular mobile OS are currently on the latest platform version. That's certainly a disappointing number considering the already advanced age of the Pie flavor, but while brands like Samsung and Nokia have done a decent job of updating older phones, HTC and LG... haven't.

The LG G7 ThinQ, for instance, was supposed to receive an official software makeover during the first three months of 2019, which did happen at the very beginning of the year but only in the company's homeland. Other markets, like Italy and the US, have had to wait until this week for an over-the-air notification of Android 9.0 Pie availability.

Multiple Reddit threads seem to confirm the rollout is well underway in Europe, followed by the first update sightings reported on America's largest wireless network. That's right, a handful of lucky Verizon subscribers are claiming they can now download and install the massive enhancement pack on their carrier-locked G7 ThinQ units, backing their reports with a few screenshots substantiating the update.

Our guess is Big Red will ramp up Android Pie delivery over the next 24 hours or so, with all the other major US wireless service providers likely to follow suit in a matter of days or, worst case scenario, a few weeks. That being said, this is a handset that should have really been updated months ago. Seeing as how it was released shortly after the Galaxy S9, LG has no excuse for needing so much more time than Samsung to optimize the Pie-flavored goodie pack for Western markets.

Of course, all's well that ends well, and if Android 9.0 makes your heart desire the LG G7 ThinQ, Best Buy still has the 6.1-incher on sale at an affordable grand total of $240 with upfront Verizon activation or monthly installments.
