Smartphones and accessories were among the top Amazon Prime Day sellers
For 30 hours starting last Monday at 9pm EDT, Amazon's Prime Day was in effect with plenty of sales offering great deals on tech items. For example, Amazon sold the original smart speaker, the Amazon Echo, for 50% off during the sale. The top selling product over the 30-hour period was the smaller, hockey puck-esque Amazon Echo Dot. After a $15 discount, the smart speaker was reduced to $34.99 for a 30% haircut. Overall, Echo sales tripled year-over-year compared to last year's Prime Day event.
Some of the best selling items during the sale were smartphones and accessories for them. The Moto G5 Plus was one of the top selling products offered in Spain. The recently released OnePlus 5 was the top seller in India during the annual event.
As we noted, accessories for handsets were in in demand. In Mexico, among the bestselling products was the AmazonBasics Apple Certified Lightning to USB Cable. Another product designed for smartphones and tablets, the Furbo Dog Camera, saw sales increase by over 500% during the sale. This allowed it to finish first in the pet supplies category. The device includes a 120 degree HD camera with night vision, and through commands placed over the Furbo mobile app, you can send a doggie treat flying through air, play with your dog even if you're miles apart, and keep an eye on your best friend through the screen on your iOS or Android device.
Amazon noted that sales placed through its mobile app doubled from last year's total, with tens of millions of customers using the app during the period when the Amazon Prime Day sale was taking place.
