| Model | Announcement | Market release |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone Duo 2 | September 2027* | September-October 2027* |
| iPhone Duo | September 9, 2026 | October 23, 2026 |
*Probable dates
The iPhone Duo had a pretty big gap between the announcement date and the date of it officially hitting the shelves. We don't know yet whether Apple would shorten the delay for the second generation. However, you can safely expect the phone to arrive in the fall of 2027.
iPhone Duo 2 price
- No pricing has leaked just yet. A starting price of $1,999 is expected, but a price hike is not out of the cards.
| Model | 256 GB | 512 GB | 1 TB | 2 TB |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone Duo 2 | $1,999* | $2,199* | $2,599* | $3,199* |
| iPhone Duo | $1,999 | $2,199 | $2,599 | $3,199 |
*Anticipated prices
The iPhone Duo launched at $1,999 for 256 GB of storage. With this price, it's positioned between the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
If Apple decides to add a telephoto lens and Face ID, this could drive the prices up.
iPhone Duo 2 camera
- Potential addition of a telephoto lens
- The original iPhone Duo launched with two 48 MP cameras
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to add a telephoto camera to its future foldables. The timeline for the upgrade is unknown at this time, and reportedly, Apple is facing a physics problem that's preventing it from adding the camera.

In fact, the iPhone Duo is just 5.2 mm thick when unfolded, and fitting a periscope or telephoto module into that slim profile is reportedly an engineering challenge. Apple would also have to maintain the nano-texture inner display and the titanium frame of the device.
It is not certain whether Apple would solve the issue in time for the iPhone Duo 2, or it would be the Duo 3 that may get the telephoto camera.
The iPhone Duo uses its 48 MP main camera for a 2x optical-quality crop zoom. That's good enough for casual use but definitely not on par with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra' 3x telephoto or the Pixel 11 Pro Fold's 5x periscope.
iPhone Duo camera setup (reference):
- 48MP Fusion main, large sensor, fast aperture, sensor-shift OIS, 2x optical quality zoom
- 48MP Fusion ultra-wide with macro
- Under-display FaceTime camera (inner display)
- Center Stage front camera (outer display)
iPhone Duo 2 storage
- 256GB / 512GB / 1TB / 2TB storage options are expected, matching the iPhone Duo
The iPhone Duo launched with the same storage options structure as the iPhone 18 Pro Max, maxing out at 2TB. Expect the Duo 2 to keep that structure.
iPhone Duo 2 design
- Face ID under the cover display
- Action button
- Size may remain the same this generation with a larger screen rumored for the Duo 3
Apple is reportedly testing prototypes of the iPhone Duo 2 with Face ID under the display on the cover screen. That would be the same under-screen approach that Apple uses for the FaceTime camera on the inner display of the current iPhone Duo.

Meanwhile, the iPhone Duo uses a side-mounted Touch ID for biometrics, because Apple wasn't able to fit the Face ID sensors into the ultra-thin titanium enclosure.
According to rumors, the company has managed to find a way to do that for the next gen or is at least testing a potential solution.
A less certain rumor is that the iPhone Duo 2 may get the Action button that Apple's been offering on Pro iPhones since the iPhone 15 Pro. Reportedly, Apple employees have been exploring ways to include it for the iPhone Duo 2.
As for the overall design, we haven't had leaks or renders just yet. Earlier rumors that the Duo 2 may come with a larger screen seem unlikely, so expect the same sizes for the next foldable iPhone.
The iPhone Duo launched in two color options – Star White and Night Sky – and we expect Apple to keep the same minimalistic approach for the next-gen foldable as well.
Gurman also said that a larger display, approximately half an inch bigger than the current 7.6-inch inner screen, was being discussed internally but may be reserved for the third generation in 2028.
iPhone Duo 2 display
- A 7.6-inch inner and a 5.4-inch outer display are expected, matching iPhone Duo
- A larger screen may arrive with the Duo 3
| Device | Screen size | Brightness |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone Duo 2 | 7.6-inch inner, 5.4-inch outer display* | 3,000 nits peak brightness (both displays)* |
| iPhone Duo | 7.6-inch inner, 5.4-inch outer display | 3,000 nits peak brightness (both displays) |
* - anticipated sizes
The iPhone Duo's inner display structure is genuine innovation with its nano-texture finish for near-invisible crease and minimal glare. The new display also feels smooth to the touch. The same tech is expected to return to the iPhone Duo 2.
Both iPhone Duo's displays are Super Retina XDR with ProMotion support and Always-on, sporting a peak brightness of 3,000 nits and Apple Pencil support.
So far, leaks have not detailed what the display of the iPhone Duo 2 would be, but rumors suggest Apple is testing next-gen OLED technology for its 2027 devices. If that applies to the Duo as well, we may get improved brightness and efficiency.
iPhone Duo 2 battery
- The same dual-battery architecture from the iPhone Duo is expected to return
- A21 Pro chip may bring better efficiency and thus better battery life
The iPhone Duo comes with a dual-battery structure with one cell on each side of the device, managed by Apple's energy rebalancing algorithms.
Apple doesn't publish battery capacities in mAh, but it claims up to 44 hours of battery life while using the outer display and up to 31 hours for the inner display. When we test the phone, we'll tell you how its battery fares in real life.
For the iPhone Duo 2, we expect improvements in battery life thanks to the A21 Pro's second-generation 2nm process.
iPhone Duo 2 features and software
- iOS 28 expected at launch
The iPhone Duo 2 is expected to come in the fall of 2027, which means it will likely sport iOS 28. Its predecessor came with iOS 27, specifically designed for the foldable form factor with the dock and controls on the side, dual Home Screen pages when unfolded, and Split View for multitasking.

iOS 28 is expected to build on those foundations, although its specific features are still unknown at this point.
Apple Pencil support should also be present for the Duo 2, as well as Apple Intelligence and Siri AI.
iPhone Duo 2 hardware and specs
- A21 Pro chip is expected on a second-gen 2 nm process, same as the iPhone 20 Pro
- Face ID sensor
- No other specs have leaked thus far
The iPhone Duo 2 is reportedly going to get the A21 Pro chip on a second-generation 2nm node. Primarily, the chip would offer improvements in efficiency as well as speed for on-device AI processing.
iPhone Duo specs (reference baseline):
- CPU: A20 Pro (2nm)
- Storage: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, 2TB
- Camera: 48MP main (2x optical quality), 48MP ultra-wide, under-display FaceTime camera, Center Stage front camera

- Rating: IP68
Should you wait for the iPhone Duo 2 ?
- You should wait for the iPhone Duo 2 if Face ID or the lack of a telephoto camera are reasons you're not going for the original. Face ID may arrive, while the telephoto is less certain currently, but it's still possible to arrive on the Duo 2. If you're already an iPhone user and you just want to go for a foldable with no compromises, the Duo 2 may be the option for you.
- You should not wait for the iPhone Duo 2 if you want a foldable right now or you're on the Android side and you're waiting for the Galaxy Z Fold 9 or Pixel 12 Pro Fold. Also, you shouldn't wait if the current Duo meets your needs, it's already a well-made device with a genuinely innovative hinge and the best chip in the category.
