What's expected to change vs Pixel 11 Pro Fold:
  • Dual-UTG inner display expected – reduces crease visibility and improves durability
  • Inner display resolution jumping to 2296 x 2404, up from 2027 x 2152 – same near-square aspect ratio retained
  • No wide-form-factor redesign – Google sticking with the square foldable shape despite iPhone Duo and Galaxy Z Fold 8 proving the appeal of a wider screen
  • Tensor G7 chip expected – likely 2nm, GPU may carry over unchanged from Tensor G6
  • Android 18 out of the box
  • Battery upgrade likely – silicon-carbon cells rumored for the Pixel 12 line

Expected release timeline:
  • August 2027, alongside the rest of the Pixel 12 series.

Expected price:
  • No leaks. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold started at $1,899 – $100 more than the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Another increase is possible given the dual-UTG display and rising component costs.

Pixel 12 Pro Fold release date

  • No official date leaked yet – expected August 2027 announcement

*Probable dates

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold launched notably later than its announcement – October versus August – while the Pixel 11 Pro Fold shipped on the same day as the rest of the Pixel 11 lineup. Assuming Google keeps that tighter window for the 12 series, an August 2027 release is reasonable.

Pixel 12 Pro Fold price

  • No price leaks yet – $1,899-$1,999 expected for starting storage model

*- anticipated prices

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold went up $100 over the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The rumored dual-UTG display is a more expensive component than the single-UTG setup on the 11 Pro Fold, which could push the base price higher.

A range of $1,899-$1,999 for the 256GB model seems like the most likely outcome.

Pixel 12 Pro Fold camera

  • No camera specs have leaked yet
  • Pixel 11 Pro Fold main camera upgraded over Pixel 10 Pro Fold – better low-light performance
  • Ultra-wide and telephoto unchanged for two generations – the areas most in need of an upgrade

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold did get a meaningful main camera upgrade over the Pixel 10 Pro Fold – a new 48MP sensor with improved light intake that addressed one of its predecessor's most consistent weaknesses in low-light photography. The ultra-wide and telephoto, however, carried over unchanged.

Recommended For You
The ultra-wide has been the consistent weak point – a 10.5MP sensor with a relatively narrow 1/3.4" sensor size falls well short of what the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL deliver on their flat-glass counterparts.

The telephoto at 10.8MP and f/3.1 is also modest by 2026 flagship standards. Google's post-processing and Tensor chip's image signal processor help bridge the gap, but hardware has been lagging.

No leaks on what changes, if anything, for the 12 Pro Fold. The most logical upgrade would be bringing the ultra-wide sensor closer in line with what the Pixel 11 Pro uses – a larger sensor and a wider aperture. The telephoto could also benefit from a sensor size bump.

Pixel 11 Pro Fold camera setup (reference):
  • 48MP main, f/1.7
  • 10.5MP ultra-wide, f/2.2
  • 10.8MP telephoto, f/3.1, 5x optical zoom
  • 10MP outer selfie
  • 10MP inner selfie

    Pixel 12 Pro Fold storage

    • No leaks yet – 256GB / 512GB / 1TB expected, matching Pixel 11 Pro Fold
    • 16GB RAM across all tiers expected, as the Fold line has consistently shipped with 16GB

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold was one of the few Pixel 11 models to keep 16GB of RAM across all storage tiers – a meaningful distinction from the standard Pro models, which dropped to 12GB on the base configuration due to RAM price pressures.

Expect that to hold on the 12 Pro Fold given the price point.

Expected Pixel 12 Pro Fold storage options:
    • 256GB (16GB RAM)
    • 512GB (16GB RAM)
    • 1TB (16GB RAM)

    Pixel 12 Pro Fold design

    • No design renders have leaked yet
    • Near-square aspect ratio confirmed – no wide-form-factor redesign
    • Overall design expected to continue iterating on Pixel 11 Pro Fold's established look
    • IP68 rating expected to carry over – with the usual caveat that the hinge is not included in dust resistance

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold was the third consecutive year of the same fundamental design language.

The refinements were real but incremental: a shaved-down camera bar with less metal around the lens cutouts, slightly more curved island edges, and a new glass fiber composite back material that Google described as nearly impossible to crack.

Expect the 12 Pro Fold to continue that pattern rather than deliver a visual reset.

The more consequential design question is form factor. A GSMA leak's resolution data – 2296 x 2404 – points to nearly the same aspect ratio as the Pixel 11 Pro Fold's near-square 2027 x 2152 inner display.

That means Google may not be following Samsung and Apple into the wider, shorter passport-style format, at least not for 2027. Whether that's a missed opportunity depends on who you ask – the wide format has proven popular, but Google's square approach has its own strengths for split-screen productivity and document work.

    Pixel 12 Pro Fold display

    • Inner display: around 2296 x 2404 resolution, near-square aspect ratio confirmed
    • Dual-UTG display expected – one glass layer above and one below the OLED panel
    • Outer display size and resolution not yet leaked – 6.5-inch expected based on Pixel 11 Pro Fold

    * - anticipated sizes and specs

Samsung Display is rumored to be producing dual-UTG prototypes to Google's specifications, with mass production expected to start next year. Possibly, the Pixel 12 Pro Fold's display will feature this new tech.

The technology works differently from what Samsung uses on its own Galaxy Z Fold series. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold – like the Galaxy Fold phones – uses a single UTG layer above the OLED panel and a reinforced plate beneath.

Dual UTG adds a second ultra-thin glass layer below the OLED as well, which helps distribute the mechanical stress from folding and unfolding more evenly, reducing both crease depth and long-term deformation.

The practical result should be a shallower, less visible crease than the 11 Pro Fold. The inner display resolution also jumps from 2027 x 2152 to 2296 x 2404, a meaningful step up that should produce noticeably sharper output on the 8-inch screen.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold's 3,600-nit peak brightness was one of its strongest specs – meaningfully ahead of the iPhone Duo's 3,000 nits. We'd expect the 12 Pro Fold to maintain or improve on that figure.

      Pixel 12 Pro Fold battery

      • No battery size leaks yet – increase from 4,750mAh expected
      • Silicon-carbon cells rumored for the Pixel 12 line – would be a first for Google
      • 30W wired charging on the Pixel 11 Pro Fold was a clear weakness versus the competition

The bigger potential upgrade to the Pixel 12 Pro Fold's battery is silicon-carbon battery technology, rumored for the Pixel 12 lineup. These cells pack more energy into a smaller physical footprint and charge faster than standard lithium-ion – both advantages for a foldable where space is limited.

The tradeoff is faster degradation over time, which is one reason Google has held back so far. Whether the 12 Pro Fold is the first Pixel foldable to make the switch is unknown, but a foldable's premium price point makes it a logical candidate.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold's 4,750mAh battery delivered over 24 hours of claimed battery life with Adaptive Battery enabled, though the Tensor G6's thermal behavior under load – flagged across all Pixel 11 Pro models in our testing – remained a concern.

The 12 Pro Fold should benefit from a more efficient Tensor G7, which could improve real-world endurance.

Charging on the Pixel 11 Pro Fold stayed at 30W wired – the same as the standard Pixel 11 Pro, and well behind the 45W offered by the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the 60W on the iPhone Duo.

Bringing the 12 Pro Fold up to 45W would address one of the more frustrating gaps between Google's foldable and its direct competitors. Wireless charging via PixelSnap at 25W is expected to carry over.

Pixel 12 Pro Fold features and software

      • Android 18 at launch
      • Google typically offers 7 years of OS and security updates

Android 18 is all we know about the software side of the 12 Pro Fold. The foldable form factor gives Google room to build on the existing split-screen, drag-and-drop, and tabletop mode functionality, and we'd expect the expanded inner display resolution to enable new multitasking arrangements.

What specifically Android 18 brings to the table for foldables is unknown at this point.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold shipped with Android 17 and the full suite of Gemini Intelligence features – multi-step task automation, Magic Capture, Camera Looks, and the sign-to-text feature developed with the Deaf community. Seven years of OS and security updates continues to be one of the stronger software support commitments in the Android ecosystem.

One feature that landed with mixed reception on the Pixel 11 Pro Fold was HiLight – the LED notification ring around the rear camera flash. At launch it only supported call notifications and Gemini activity pulses, which both our Pro and Pro XL reviewers called a gimmick. If Google keeps it on the 12 Pro Fold, expanding what it can trigger would make a real difference.

Pixel 12 Pro Fold hardware and specs

      • Tensor G7 expected, likely 2nm, GPU may carry over unchanged from Tensor G6
      • RAM: 16GB expected across all tiers, consistent with Pixel 11 Pro Fold
      • No charging, connectivity, or camera spec leaks yet

The Tensor G7 is nearly confirmed by leaker Mystic Leaks – internal codename Lajolla, continuing Google's California coastal naming pattern.

A 2nm process node is expected, which would bring CPU efficiency gains and better thermal performance.

The more concerning detail from the same source: the GPU may carry over unchanged from the Tensor G6, which itself recycled the G5's GPU. For a foldable at $1,899+, three generations of the same graphics processor would be a notable shortcoming – particularly as gaming on foldable displays becomes more of a selling point.

The Tensor G6 inside the Pixel 11 Pro Fold was adequate for the device's primary use cases – productivity, AI features, and photography – but trailed Snapdragon-powered competitors significantly in sustained performance.

The iPhone Duo's A20 Pro chip, by comparison, posted GPU scores more than double the Tensor G6's in our benchmarks. The Tensor G7 on a newer node should close some of that gap on the CPU side at minimum.

Should you wait for the Pixel 12 Pro Fold?

      • You should wait for the Pixel 12 Pro Fold if the crease is your main reservation about foldables in general. The dual-UTG display is the most concrete upgrade we know about, and it could make the 12 Pro Fold the least visible crease of any Google foldable to date. The resolution bump on the inner screen is also a genuine improvement that will be noticeable on an 8-inch display. If you're holding out for a wide-format Pixel foldable, however, the 12 Pro Fold won't be it.

      • You should not wait for the Pixel 12 Pro Fold if performance is a priority. The Tensor G7's GPU may carry over unchanged for a third generation, which would leave the 12 Pro Fold well behind the Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra's likely Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro and whatever Apple ships in its next foldable. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is already available at reduced prices through trade-in deals, and its triple camera system – with the 5x telephoto – is something the iPhone Duo doesn't match.
