Leap Wireless closes down some of its stores
Things don't seem to be too cheery over at Leap Wireless as it permanently gave 27 stores its last rites – they've closed down approximately 10 percent of its 269 Cricket Wireless stores nationwide. With that in tow, they had the unfortunate duty of letting go 180 of its employees as its most recent quarterly report painted a grim outlook for their future. Now employing roughly 4,200 employees in the country, Leap Wireless has said that store closures and reducing staff are part of the normal retail operations – especially after reporting a $64 million loss. Although they've just announced a new joint venture with Pocket Communications to further their expansion in the Texas market, they may actually follow through with their intentions of finding a buyer for the company. Despite all of that, they're still trying to be optimistic and thinking outside of the box by soon introducing smartphones to its lineup.
