Hotel in Vancouver equips guests staying there with iPhones
Call it a first, the Opus hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia equip its staying guests with iPhones! Indeed, that’s one sweet amenity thrown in with the stay, but it’s actually a standard practice for the hotel. Obviously, the hotel hopes that international guests will take a liking to trotting around the beloved smartphone during their stay – both at the hotel and during their travels around the area.
In fact, the hotel allows its guest to bring along the smartphone during their trips around the area, where they’ll be able to make local phone calls and surf the web. No doubt, it’s the perfect companion seeing that it has a ton of function in making the trip worthwhile – like having the ability to look up local eateries, getting directions, reviews on certain tourist spots, and much more. However, if guests choose to make international phone calls, the charges are simply billed to their account on file.
For those concerned about privacy, it’s worth noting that the iPhones are wiped to ensure that nothing remains on the handset, which is then ready for operation for the next guest obviously. Well folks, this isn’t the first time we’re hearing about guests being equipped with gadgets during their stay, as the Plaza Hotel in New York offers its guests with iPads to control their room.

Disposable goods are not breakthrough technology they are acceptable loss. This is not a compliment to Apple. Rather a hotel ahead of the curve.
If they offered galaxy s3, now that would be a risk and compliment of technology.

hotels are just trying to offer more to its guests to increase revenue and customer satisfaction...
stop hating because its an iphone damn... every single apple article...smh

I travel frequently for work, and often to canada as well. The rates for traveling and using your phone go through the roof if you don't have plans to accommodate. That's a brilliant idea to give folks the ability to make local calls without destroying their usage or chalking up high cost from using a hotel phone.

Good point. I just can't imagine on a personal level going anywhere without my phone. For those who have to, makes sense.

I think this is a cool idea. Not only can you use it for Internet and callin , you can also use it as a camera if you forgot yours, or don't have one.

Great Idea, every time i visit an international country i'm stuck not being able to use my phone, so the idea of giving your guests a phone to use, non the less a smartphone is great idea that will attract international travelers to your Hotel

That's not really all that surprising to me. i stayed at the Fountainebleau Miami Beach and every room had a 20" iMac in the room. So hotels are starting to throw technology in the mix of guest experience.

well if you are an adult you are responsible for your actions... if you have butter fingers you have no business getting a phone made og glass.. get a disposible android phone. you are an adult and you should be treated like one
at a 4+ star hotel event the water is overpiced and if you opened you pay for it.. it is what it is..

They probably already have a iphone or android phone or others. This is wasting money by then they will loose more money.

Regardless of whether the phone is wiped upon checkout, incoming and outgoing calls, internet activity, and text messages are placed through the hotel's service. That information will linger somewhere long after the iPhone has been reset. The same would be true when using your own personal device, however, then it would be accessible to just the carrier, and not hotel staff. For many, this isn't a concern -- for some, it will be. Regardless, customers should know where a record of their activity exists, how long it will be stored, and who has access to it.

Everything this hotel wants to achieve could be done via an App - local call tariff, multimedia access etc etc - and it could be done for each type of phone OS quite easily. Why they've seen fit to deploy iphone hardware seems more like a marketing stunt rather than because of any demonstrable ROI.
