Apple is sending out invitations that it will hold an "education announcement" January 19 at the Guggenheim in NYC. Most rumors point to the unveiling of electronic textbooks, something Steve Jobs had been keen to do from the very beginning, and has reportedly worked on the project to his last days.

The event is not expected to have any hardware announcement, but an iTunes University (iTunes U) project is expected to be detailed too, as part of the "education announcement".

What will these rumored electronic textbooks and iTunes University announcements entail can only be guessed for now, but word on the street was that the projects have been in the making for years, and Apple moved this event from its intended timeframe of late fall last year, to next Thursday.

Educating people on how to stay with Apple and not go with Android. Love em or hate em, they can market hardware and software to the masses.

Eletronic text books sounds like a really great idea. If its anything like the Elements book on iTunes...Apple has another winner!

I wonder if they will allow users to have the books on any device or just Apple products. Even if I have a Mac I would love to be able to use the books, say, in the computer lab at school that only has XP machines(lol). If I can place the books on a jump then count me in also be less than the schools texts.

Apple into education? More like into indoctrination, if you ask me..

Anyone who played Mass Effect will know what I'm talking about. :)
