Siri AI can now be activated without waiting in a digital queue once you enroll in Settings. The waitlist will only trigger as a fallback when demand peaks, making the new Siri AI features far more accessible to Apple users. Siri AI is available for recent iPhone lineups, meaning anyone rocking the iPhone 18 Pro Max, the iPhone Duo, or even the iPhone 17 can check it out right now.
It is no secret that Apple fans have waited a long time for a smarter Siri assistant that can hold natural conversations and perform tasks as instructed. By using large language models (LLMs), Siri AI is the closest Apple has come to realizing that vision so far.
How to activate Siri AI without joining a waitlist
Apple updated the Siri AI support guide with a simplified onboarding flow for new users, provided they do it outside peak hours:
- Navigate to Settings > Siri
- Tap “Try Siri AI” in Settings
- Customize the voice Siri uses
- Wait for the AI models to download
- Swipe down from the Dynamic Island to start using Siri AI
When Apple first launched the beta version of Siri AI in September 2026, users had to wait in a virtual queue for hours or even days to try the new Siri. The waitlist probably acted as a safeguard to prevent millions of iPhones from hammering the Private Cloud Compute – Apple’s cloud-based AI infrastructure – during the early weeks.
If that was the case, relegating the waitlist to a backup suggests Apple has since stabilized the server load for Siri AI. The app, however, is still in the beta phase, so it's best to ground expectations.

What makes Siri AI different?

Although Android fans have been using the Gemini AI assistant for years, comparing it directly to Siri AI misses critical nuance. The key here is Apple's approach, which is substantially different from Google's design. What sets Siri AI apart is its deep OS integration, allowing Siri to interact directly with iOS apps, while Gemini AI focuses more on cloud-connected services.
According to Apple, Siri AI integrates with Messages, Mail, Photos, Calendar, Notes, Reminders, and more to build a rich personal context about the user. It then utilizes that context when taking actions to send emails, create reminders, and so on. For instance, you could ask Siri AI to pull up your family vacation photos or a receipt buried in your messages using natural language.
Although the app is still in beta, it may give a taste of what the next-gen Siri can do. Just keep in mind that Apple is still working toward a stable version, which will hopefully impress fans with even more capabilities.
