It's not you (or your Galaxy S25) — the latest security update is hitting your battery life hard

The April security patch may have plagued Galaxy S24 devices as well.

Not long ago, Redditors complained the latest Galaxy Watch software update was causing a major issue. Users with various generations of Samsung's wearables experienced excessive battery life issues. Well, it appears software updates aren't just plaguing smartwatches.

The latest security update appears to cause Samsung phone issues

On April 6, 2026, Samsung rolled out the latest security update for Galaxy S25 devices in South Korea, with other regions following soon after. While the tech giant didn't reveal exactly what kind of updates were included, it has likely fixed some known bugs and brought the Knox Matrix to a more recent version.

Apparently, fixing one bug creates another. From last week onwards, r/samsunggalaxy has turned into a troubleshooting hub for users experiencing what can only be described as a rapid battery drainage.

The problem is huge

Redditors with Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S24 devices have noticed persistent, sharp battery life loss in the weeks following the April security update.

What is your 'breaking point' with Samsung?

User data points beyond battery life loss, with several people explaining their phones have become significantly warmer. Some even reportedly faced charging difficulties. Most surprising of all, the battery life reportedly goes from 75-90% to 0% in just a few hours.

For some, the Knox Matrix was the most likely culprit that caused the battery life to vanish so rapidly on a single charge. However, Mobile Services may have also begun using more battery than before, with users noticing there has been a sizable amount of data transferred through these apps.

Plenty of advice, few solutions

It's not just the battery-draining issue that has been causing anxiety. Apparently, there's a lack of a 'uniform' solution that could return Galaxy S25 and S24 devices to 'normal.'

Multiple solutions have been offered, including turning on Battery Saver mode and clearing the cache partition. These steps don't appear to have solved the issue for everyone; others deleted the latest Knox Matrix update or entered Safe Mode for a while and then turned it off.

Then there are users who have allegedly tried every proposed solution, though nothing has worked. Everything points to a deeper flaw within the latest security patch, one that could only be addressed by Samsung itself.

Samsung needs to deliver

Launching software updates that ultimately fail to meet expectations isn't a one-time thing for Samsung. It's not even limited to the South Korean tech giant. What is worrying here, at least in my opinion, is the consistency.

After all, Galaxy Watch users experienced the same battery life issues not long ago, so Samsung must have learned its lesson. Seems like it didn't.

At this point, wouldn't it be wiser to wait until patches are fully optimized before rolling them out? Otherwise, user trust will eventually be lost, simple as that.
