Ex-Apple CEO Tim Cook has stepped down from his role at the company and new CEO John Ternus has taken over as the former settles into his new title as an Apple Executive Chairman. After so many years of Cook being the face of the company, I wanted to see him at the launch event for the upcoming foldable iPhone Ultra, and I kind of got my wish.

In his newsletter Power On, Apple insider Mark Gurman reveals that Tim Cook will most likely be in attendance in the VIP section of the Apple event’s screening with press and other important figures. This is a new era for Apple, so I suppose it makes perfect sense for Cook to want to see the company embark on its new path.

Cook won’t make an appearance in the event
However, Tim Cook will almost certainly not make an appearance in the pre-recorded event video itself. The entire point of handing over the reins to Ternus at this point in time, as Gurman points out, is for John Ternus to lead the charge with a strong opening: announcing Apple’s first foldable flagship phone.

Fortunately for Apple, the transition seems to have been received mostly positively by its customer base.

Being present at the company’s own screening of the event at Apple Park among other VIP guests does mean one thing, we’ll get to see more of Cook at least this one time. The ex-CEO will likely be photographed using the iPhone Ultra and perhaps even the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

While the foldable iPhone Ultra is a highly anticipated item that has long been in the works and will draw tons of attention next week, I am a bit bummed that Cook never got to see his dream come true.
In his last couple of years as CEO at Apple, Cook had been obsessed with getting a consumer-grade pair of AR smart glasses to market to compete with the likes of Meta. Unfortunately, whenever that eventually does happen in the future, Cook won’t be the one announcing the new product.
