Samsung makes strange update change to the mid-range Galaxy A37

When I owned the OG iPhone back in 2007, I'll admit to treating the device with kid gloves. Back in the day, there was always concern that a drizzle would permanently disable your handset. Dropping the phone usually resulted in a cracked screen.

With all of this in mind, Samsung did something quite surprising. After only four months, the Galaxy A37 mid-ranger was moved from monthly security updates to quarterly security updates. In other words, instead of receiving security patches every month, Galaxy A37 owners will start receiving them every three months. This change normally doesn't take place until two to three years have passed.

Samsung changed the frequency of the Galaxy A37's security updates, but it did confirm that the phone will still receive six years of system updates. Even though the security updates will now come quarterly, the manufacturer also said that it is still committed to pushing out six years' worth of these updates.

The Galaxy A37 has been on the shelves for a relatively short time

This whole thing is a bit strange for Samsung, especially when you consider that the Galaxy A37 has yet to receive the July security update and the Galaxy A33 has. And the phone that accompanied the Galaxy A37 when it was unveiled on March 25 and released in the US on April 9, the Galaxy A57, is still receiving monthly security updates.

The Samsung Galaxy A37 features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a 1080 x 2340 resolution and a 0-120Hz variable refresh rate. Under the hood is a 4nm Exynos 1480 application processor.

How much does the Galaxy A37 cost in the States?

In the US, the 128GB Galaxy A37 base model is priced at $449.99. The 256GB variant will run you $539.99. For comparison, the Galaxy A57 is priced at $549.99 for 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage, and $609.99 for the model sporting 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage.



The Galaxy A37 has a rear camera array consisting of a 50MP Main camera, an 8MP Ultra-wide camera, and a 5MP Macro for close-ups. The Galaxy A37 is equipped with a 12MP front-facing camera for selfies and video chats. The phone is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery and will fast charge at 45W.

The Galaxy A57 features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus display with a 120Hz refresh rate and an 1800 x 2340 resolution. The Exynos 1680 processor powers the device, which includes a 50MP Main camera, a 13MP Ultra-wide, and a 5MP Macro for close-ups. The phone comes with a 12MP front-facing camera for selfies and video chats.
