Leaked roadmap reveals Apple's plans beyond the iPhone 18 Pro

Apple fans are probably most excited about the iPhone 18 Pro and the foldable iPhone Ultra, but they’re far from the only new devices coming this fall. The company is reportedly planning to launch a swath of new Macs before the end of the year, followed by even more models in 2027.

Apple has about a dozen new Macs in the making

A new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has revealed that Apple is preparing to refresh every Mac and MacBook it offers. The vast majority of the upgrades are expected to launch before the end of 2027, though external factors may lead to delays.

The most likely models to kick off the release cycle are a new 14-inch entry-level MacBook Pro and two new iMacs. The laptop will stick to the same design, but it’ll feature the M6 chip, while the iMac will get its first refresh in two years.

The MacBook Pro is getting an overhaul soon

The rumored MacBook Pro models with OLED displays may launch at the end of this year or early next year. Apple is reportedly testing the machines with macOS 27.1, suggesting they won’t launch before October. They’re expected to be powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max processors.

Early 2027 is the most likely moment to also see a MacBook Air refresh, which is likely to look like the current models, but with new chips. This could also be when Apple launches the second-generation MacBook Neo with an A19 Pro chipset, a memory upgrade, and new colors.

At an unspecified moment in 2027, Apple may also refresh the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M7 chipset and a design similar to the higher-end models. The M7 Pro and M7 Max versions of the high-end laptops may launch by the end of 2027, while the OLED MacBook Air isn’t expected before 2028.

Memory issues

Some of Apple’s plans are reportedly dependent on the state of memory supplies. New Mac mini with M5 Pro and M6 chips and a Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips are in the making, but the specific configurations are fully dependent on external factors.

Look even further into the future, Apple is developing an iMac with an OLED display. This model should utilize the same technology Apple is rumored to use on the top-tier MacBook Pro, the upgraded MacBook Air, and the upcoming OLED version of the iPad mini.

Probably the most consequential of all these upgrades would be the MacBook Neo 2, especially considering the great performance of the original. Users on Reddit have reported they approached Apple’s cheapest laptop thinking about its performance limitations, but after some time they found it working perfectly.

Apple already broke my heart by raising the prices of its computers, and some of its new models are likely to be even more expensive. I still hope that at least the base versions of the MacBook Air and MacBook Neo won’t get more hikes, as those are the ones that could serve most people.
