Could your iPhone really be about to lose MagSafe? | Image by PhoneArena
MagSafe — Apple’s magnetic wireless charging — has been a staple of the company’s flagship smartphones for many years. Which is why it will probably come as a big shock to find out that Apple might just remove MagSafe from future iPhone models, and the why of this move is infuriating.
Apple removing MagSafe?
According to a new report (translated source), there has apparently been a lot of debate internally within Apple regarding removing MagSafe from the iPhone as a standard feature. That would put the iPhone at the level of Samsung’s Galaxy flagship phones, which still lack magnetic support for wireless charging.

Funnily enough, leaked Galaxy Z Fold 8 dummy units reveal that Samsung is finally getting around to incorporating magnetic support for wireless charging in its phones.
But why, though?

Apparently, Apple has been debating removing MagSafe because the magnetic accessories’ industry has been very successful. If the iPhone doesn’t come with magnets anymore, then even people like me who dislike using phone cases might be coerced into buying one just for a better wireless charging experience.
The report does specify that Apple is considering removing MagSafe as a standard feature, so more expensive models could still include it. It could also become an extra feature that you can pay for.
Would the removal of MagSafe impact your loyalty to iPhone?
It would be a horrible decision
After the Apple Intelligence delays and the poor sales of the iPhone Air, such a move would be disastrous PR for Apple.
However, it can’t be denied that previous similarly unpopular moves by Apple were eventually not only accepted by the industry but also adopted by competitors of similar stature as well. For example, the removal of the charging brick from the phone box.
I’ll take it with a grain of salt
Though the source of this claim has an immaculate record, this is still something that I would treat with some skepticism. MagSafe is a very popular part of the iPhone experience, and with Samsung finally adopting similar technology, Apple would be mad to remove it from its phones.
There probably was internal debate on this issue but I will be very surprised if it ever makes it past closed doors. Especially with a new CEO arriving at the helm soon, Apple cannot afford to pull such a stupidly risky move.
