iPhone Air 2: 7 changes that could make Apple's thinnest phone even better
The first iPhone Air, Apple's ultra-slim phone, was introduced with the iPhone 17 lineup.

Now, rumor has it the phone is going to have a successor, which could tentatively be called the iPhone Air 2. The phone may launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and foldable iPhone in the fall of this year, or it may come in the spring of 2027 together with the 'vanilla' iPhone 18.

And rumors are already talking about the device. Here are the upgrades that Apple may bring to this year's slim-chic iPhone.

2nm-built processor

According to multiple rumors, the iPhone Air 2 is going to come with a 2-nanometer chip. The purpose of this upgrade is to help improve battery life, which is one of the biggest drawbacks of the previous model. The chip that's going to power the iPhone Air 2 is said to be the A20 Pro chipset.

The next-gen processor would be more power-efficient, which should help the performance and battery life of the phone.

A second camera

The first-generation iPhone Air sports only one 48MP camera. Multiple reports are now claiming that the phone may add a second camera to its setup for more versatility. The current 48MP camera on the Air does a relatively good job, but it doesn't do wide-angle shots. Potentially, the second camera the Cupertino tech giant may be thinking of adding may be an ultra-wide one.

Potential price cut

Rumor has it that Apple may be dropping the price of the second-generation iPhone Air. Reportedly, the company is currently considering this possibility. The iPhone Air starts at $999, and it's mostly a tough sell. If the price cut happens, rumors claim that the phone may cost $899. However, take this rumor with a grain of salt, as Apple is not a company known for making price cuts too often.

An upgraded display

Apple is reportedly looking into CoE tech for the upcoming iPhone Air 2. The technology could offer a slimmer OLED panel, which would be great for a super-slim device like the Air. The new OLED type drops the polarizing layer that current displays use.

The change would make the display brighter and more power-efficient, as well as thinner. With CoE tech, the color filter is placed directly on the OLED's encapsulation layer instead of being in the display's polarizer layer.

The 6.55-inch LTPO panel makes a return

The iPhone Air 2's display specs also leaked, and it's expected that it will sport a 6.55-inch 120Hz LTPO display. The Dynamic Island is reportedly making a return. The original iPhone Air also comes with a 6.55-inch display (officially, 6.5 inches), so we're not getting a big change here, apart from the aforementioned upgrade in the display tech itself.

Slightly slimmer than the first Air

The design of the iPhone Air 2 is generally expected not to change dramatically. However, rumor has it that the Cupertino giant may be looking for ways to slim it even further. Potentially this could be done with the help of the slimmer display. The iPhone Air is just 5.6 mm thin, so expect at least this thickness or slightly slimmer. The Action button and the Camera Control button are also said to stay.

Launch date: fall 2026 or spring 2027

Reports are contradictory on when we're going to see the second-generation iPhone Air. Some reports indicate that the phone is joining the iPhone 18 Pro models in the fall. Other reports claim that Apple may have a split release strategy this time around and introduce the Air with the base model in the spring of next year.
