When Apple released the iPhone 17 lineup, it seemed like business as usual. For some users, though, the problems began shortly after.

Reports from Reddit suggest consistent battery life issues over the past seven months, hinting that these iPhones may not be as reliable as expected.

The iPhone 17 hasn't lived up to everyone's expectations

The reports, which began surfacing on Reddit as early as September 2025 describe a harrowing experience for any smartphone owner. Users explain that after their device’s battery drains completely and the phone shuts down, it simply won't turn back on.

Even more concerning, the iPhone 17 lineup reportedly remains unresponsive for an uncannily long period. Some users have explained their device doesn't turn back on even after hours of charging.

The initial report came from an iPhone 17 Pro Max owner, though the issue doesn’t appear to be limited to that model.

Data from the r/iPhone subreddit indicates that the entire family: the standard iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max; all share that 'flawed DNA'. In each case, users describe the same pattern: the battery drains completely, the phone shuts off, and it won't restart.

Sometimes, standard troubleshooting helps with such issues, but not in that case. Users report that force-restarting their iPhones has yielded no results.

That said, for some, using an original MagSafe charger made the device responsive after some time. Others explain their phone only became functional after plugging in an original Apple USB-C cable and power adapter for nearly an hour.

A fix appears to have been uncovered

One user who resolved to seek an Apple Store for assistance seems to have found a workaround, as well as a possible cause. They used a MagSafe charger to 'turn their iPhone back to life,' after which they installed the latest software updates.

Regardless, the problem doesn't appear to be limited to one software update. Responses are still being submitted in the subreddit, some of which date from less than 24 hours ago. This indicates there could be a deeper underlying error.

Waiting for an ultimate solution

When it comes to Apple, users expect a certain level of reliability. But when a brand-new device shows such severe issues, the trust is inevitably broken.

It's not just about broken trust, though. The persistence of this issue across multiple software versions and devices suggests there may be no 'one update will fix it' scenario. It raises a difficult question: could this be a deep-seated hardware error?

For a brand that has won so many users, such issues aren't just a minor inconvenience. While the Apple ecosystem is still strong, the lack of a definitive fix is indeed troubling.
