Apple's iPhone Ultra is performing the worst among our users

Even Huawei is more popular than what Cupertino has to offer.

The first foldable iPhone (a.k.a. the iPhone Ultra) will be a major hit and will finally make the general population embrace foldables.

That's what many say and they don't even need a working unit in their hands to say so – the iPhone Ultra is expected in September, so right now, we have to deal with rumors and leaks.

Personally, I won't be shocked to see the iPhone Ultra becoming a hit, but I'll be truly surprised if the device is close to perfection in terms of hardware. After all, first-gen gadgets often come with their fair share of hiccups.

But there's a distinct group of people that are not awed by the iPhone Ultra at all. It's you, the PhoneArena readers.

What the numbers say

In our "Who nailed the short and wide design?" poll that you participated in recently, the results are as follows:

  • Samsung – 57.19%
  • Huawei – 21.93%
  • Google – 10.96%
  • Apple – 9.93%

See, even the OG Pixel Fold from 2023 gets more love than the "hottest" product by the most beloved US phone maker.

Samsung is the undisputed winner with over 57% of the votes, while Huawei (surprise, surprise!) is distant second with almost 22%. Google gets the bronze with almost 11% of the total votes.

Why short and wide?

The poll above has to do with foldables. And, if you were paying attention to the foldables realm in recent months, you've surely noticed that the conversation revolves around the new hot form factor. Instead of the usual square-ish foldable (Galaxy Z Fold 7, Oppo Find N6, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, to name just a few) that folds back into the usual tall and narrow candy bar phone, companies push the "passport" envelope.

A wider-than-taller foldable provides an aspect ratio resembling that of a tablet. That's perfect for video consumption!

But why is Apple doing so poorly and why does Samsung excel?

That's probably because every maker in our poll has already announced and officially previewed its wider-than-tall foldable. True, the just-announced Galaxy Z Fold 8 (which incorporates the new funky aspect ratio) hasn't yet hit market shelves, but numerous reviewers already had their hands-on time with it:

Meanwhile, the iPhone Ultra is still many weeks away and voters are seemingly unwilling to trust it too much.
