Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 sales may have grown even stronger after the iPhone Duo launch
Instead of negatively impacting the appeal of Samsung's latest and greatest foldables, the iPhone Duo may have helped the Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra in Europe.
Yes, the passport-style Z Fold 8 and its Ultra brother are insanely successful on the old continent in addition to Samsung's domestic market, and believe it or not, the European sales numbers of the two new Android-powered foldables may have actually risen in the weeks (yes, plural) following the introduction of their biggest and most dangerous rival.
Now these are some eye-popping figures!
45 percent increase in sales across Europe in nine weeks compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7;
260 percent jump in Google searches across "major" European markets in September;
460 percent boost in searches between September 6 and 12.
To be perfectly clear, all these comparisons put the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra up against last year's Z Fold 7 in "equivalent weeks." So while the two generations of foldables were obviously not released on the exact same dates of 2025 and 2026, Samsung's analysis focuses on the first nine weeks of their commercial availability.

At the same time, it's important to point out that there's only one Galaxy Z Fold 7 model and two different Z Fold 8 versions, so in a way, this is not technically an entirely fair comparison after all, and some sort of improvement was to be expected for this year's Samsung foldables.

That being said, 45 percent is definitely not just "some sort" of sales improvement, likely exceeding Samsung's most optimistic initial expectations. And yes, the iPhone Duo was unveiled during that nine-week period following the Z Fold 8 duo's launch, probably helping said duo in terms of online visibility and likely sales as well instead of hurting it.
Is the Z Fold 8 bigger in Europe than everywhere else?
That's not an easy question to answer when we don't have detailed and current regional data for any other places around the world, but in the US, for instance, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra were "consistently tracking" just30 percent ahead of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 the last time we heard from Samsung on that matter.
Why do you think the Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra are so popular?

The US result from early September was actually very similar to the pre-order improvement over the Z Fold 7 confirmed a month earlier in the same country, so unless the iPhone Duo has somehow managed to boost the appeal of Samsung's latest foldables stateside by an even wider margin than in Europe, it's probably safe to say this particular progress still sits below 45 percent.
But even if the US improvement continues to circle 30 percent, that's clearly an outstanding result for the Z Fold 8 duo at a time when the smartphone market as a whole is struggling due to rising component costs and product prices.
Wait, what about the Galaxy Z Flip 8?
Unfortunately for those of you who refuse to believe clamshell-style foldables are dying, the Z Flip 8 is only mentioned in passing in Samsung's latest Newsroom article.

Mum's the word on the European sales figures of the company's latest (and, yes, greatest) flip phone, which is never a good sign, and especially after Samsung was already pretty vague about the Galaxy Z Flip 8's US box-office performance, only confirming an important share of its early buyers were coming from "competing brands" (cough, Motorola, cough).
