Apple's iPhone Duo looks totally different from other foldables. Compared to devices like last year's Galaxy Z Fold 7, which has a symmetrical, boxy design, the iPhone Duo has a book-style design. In addition to its unique form factor, there are plenty of other things to like about the foldable iPhone. However, one thing you will surely not like about the device is its insane repair cost.
Apple has listed the repair fees of the different components of the iPhone Duo. It starts from $49 for cover-layer damage and goes up to $1,499 for "other damage." Here's the complete list of what it will cost you to get different parts of the iPhone Duo repaired:
Notably, the above are the fees you will be charged if you haven't purchased AppleCare Plus. Apple's vice president of hardware engineering, Kate Bergeron, mentioned in an interview that the cover layer above the inner screen can be peeled off and replaced with a new one.
That said, you might wonder what actually falls under "other damage," whose repair is going to cost a whopping $1,499: a price at which you can purchase the 2026-release, 15-inch Apple MacBook Air featuring the M5 chip. Well, Apple hasn't explicitly provided details about it, but I believe it's pretty much everything that hasn't been mentioned above in the list.

- Outer display damage: $379
- Outer display and back glass damage: $509
- Inner display damage: $999

Even though the cover layer looks like a repair job you can handle yourself to save the $49, the key thing to remember is that this isn't a regular screen protector. But I would highly advise against it.
The reason is that if anything goes wrong while trying to replace the cover layer, you might end up damaging the inner display, whose repair cost is $999. I believe any wise person would prefer to pay $49 to have the cover layer replaced by an expert instead of gambling with almost $1,000.
I believe AppleCare Plus is iPhone Duo most important feature. Do you agree?

For instance, very major physical damage to the iPhone Duo's body or internal components falls under the "other damage" category. Apple diagnostics will eventually make it clear exactly how much you will have to pay to get your foldable iPhone repaired.
The outrageous repair cost of the iPhone Duo might make you eager to know about the fee you need to pay to get any other foldable repaired. Google has listed the prices you need to spend from your wallet to get different parts of its latest Pixel 11 Pro Fold fixed. Here's the complete list:
As you can see, the repair cost of most of the latest Pixel foldable components is cheaper than the foldable iPhone.
Unlike Google and Apple, Samsung has not disclosed the exact repair cost of most parts of the Galaxy Z Fold 8. However, its official page did mention the repair fees of the inner and outer displays, which are $419 and $139, respectively.
The iPhone Duo repair cost is, undoubtedly, very high, but not if you purchase the AppleCare Plus that is available at $19.99 per month. Here's how much you would have to pay to get individual parts of the Apple foldable repaired if you have the AppleCare Plus subscription with you.
As you can see, there is a drastic difference between the cost you need to pay with and without the AppleCare Plus subscription. And I believe that if one can afford to purchase the $2,000 iPhone Duo without a lease or credit, then they can easily manage paying the extra $19.99 per month.
There are three ways you can use AppleCare.
Many popular names like MKBHD and Mark Gurman believe that the iPhone Duo isn't a smartphone built for everyone, and looking at its insanely high repair costs, I have also started to believe the same. I really liked Apple's approach of publishing the repair prices for individual components, unlike Samsung, which has not given much detail about how much you would have to pay if its foldable gets broken.

How to use AppleCare if your iPhone Duo suffers any mishap
There are three ways you can use AppleCare.
- Visit a nearby Apple Store: When you take your broken iPhone Duo to an Apple Store, a technician will inspect it and let you know the available service options and an estimated cost.
- Opt for a mail-in repair: In this option, you need to contact Apple Support, and they will then provide you with everything needed to securely mail them your damaged iPhone Duo.
- Express Replacement Service: If you choose this approach, Apple will send you a working foldable iPhone while it repairs your damaged one.
There are plenty of third-party options available for getting iPhones repaired, such as uBreakiFix by Asurion and CPR Cell Phone Repair. However, most of them have yet to make repairs available for the iPhone Duo. The reason is likely that the device is still very new, and their technicians still do not have access to genuine parts.
So, if anything breaks on your foldable iPhone, I would highly recommend getting it repaired by Apple instead of taking it to your nearby smartphone repair shop. You should also not try to become a technician yourself and fix the foldable on your own, especially if you do not have enough technical knowledge, as one wrong move can cost you thousands of dollars.
iPhone Duo is certainly not for everyone
Many popular names like MKBHD and Mark Gurman believe that the iPhone Duo isn't a smartphone built for everyone, and looking at its insanely high repair costs, I have also started to believe the same. I really liked Apple's approach of publishing the repair prices for individual components, unlike Samsung, which has not given much detail about how much you would have to pay if its foldable gets broken.
However, I really didn't like its outrageous pricing. For instance, charging $999 to get the inner screen replaced. For reference, that is 50% of the price of a new iPhone Duo.
I would have really appreciated it if the tech giant had made repairs more affordable, like Google. Anyway, if you are planning to get the foldable, you can purchase it for as low as $800 by taking advantage of an amazing deal that's currently available at AT&T.
