Windows Phone 8.1 to be pushed out in the first two weeks of next month?
A tweet from the Microsoft India Twitter account, might have given us an idea when to expect Windows Phone 8.1 to be released. In response to a question about when to expect the update, Microsoft India replied that it would be made available to existing Windows Phone 8 users some time during the first two weeks of July. The only question is whether this answer is specific to the Indian market, or relates to a global roll out of the latest Windows Phone build.

U.S. recipients of the update are looking forward to the Windows Phone 8.1 update, because it will bring virtual personal assistant Cortana to their devices. First available only as part of the U.S. update to Windows Phone 8.1,  the personal assistant will eventually be offered to Windows Phone 8.1 users around the world.

Windows Phone 8.1 is currently available out of the box on the Nokia Lumia 630 and Nokia Lumia 635. It can also be installed on the Windows Phone 8 handsets owned by those who have registered as developers with Microsoft. As we told you on Saturday, 7.7% of global Windows Phone users are rocking Windows Phone 8.1 according to mobile ad network AdDuplex.

Nice.

Honestly I can't understand how Windows Phone 8.1 can have been available on the 630/635 handsets for ages, while it seems to take forever for Microsoft to roll it out to other devices.

Aside from Android L, new versions of android from google get posted on their devices within days, not months. Guess who owns Nokia now and pretty much was their poster boy for WP? They should have had it ready weeks ago.

Nokia owns Nokia. Microsoft does not own Nokia.

"ages"? The phone is still in pre-order status in a lot of places and just hitting store shelves in others (and already selling out, BTW, like the 520 and 521 before it)

I think that Windows 8.1 is the OS that will give Windows smart phones features that will make MS Windows smart Take off in sales. as far as MS OS desktop computers go the tiles will remain but it will have great new features and be named Windows 9 by June 2015. Windows 8.1 for desktop computers is OK for me but Microsoft should upgrade Windows 7 and sell it as a Mouse and Keyboard only version of Windows 9 so microsoft will make millions of Microsoft computer users who do not like their hybrid computer Tile interface OS happy. if Microsoft does this The People who have to give MS XP up will buy Windows 9 mouse and keyboard only by the Millions

all they will do is bring back the start button, something i was more than glad see go. Hate that thing. Currently their latest update, desktop users boot directly into desktop, and their apps are now taskbar enabled with easier mouse usage. All in all the latest updated fixed all but the 'start' button for their OS. Also if you right click the start icon, you get all the necessary features most people wanted quick access to.
