OnePlus fans line the block in the U.K. for free goodies and a look at the OnePlus 2
On a sunny Sunday morning in the U.K., OnePlus borrowed SwiftKey's U.K. offices so that fans eager to see the OnePlus 2 could check out the recently unveiled handset, and receive some free goodies. An hour and a half before the doors opened, the line numbered about 120, mostly male, OnePlus fans. The company, always looking to save money on marketing, decided to borrow space from the popular third-party virtual keyboard app developer instead of spending its own money for an expensive conference room at a swanky U.K. hotel.
OnePlus told U.K. press that it has 1 million invitation requests, a figure that we passed along to you the other day. That doesn't necessarily mean that the company will be selling that many units when the phone goes on sale August 11th. It all depends on the number of handsets that have been manufactured. While OnePlus has said that up to 50 times more invitations will be available at launch this year, forum members, contest members and those awarded invites from device owners will get first shot at buying the OnePlus 2.
Keeping with the razor thin margins received by OnePlus on hardware sales, the 16GB version of the OnePlus 2 is priced at $329, while the 64GB model is tagged at $389.

Last year, OnePlus figured that the OnePlus One would sell only 50,000 to 100,000 units. Instead, the company sold more than 1 million phones. Considering the thin margins being made by the company due to the low pricing of its handsets, OnePlus has been forced to keep supply and demand matched up, which is why it instituted the invitation system in the first place.
