Android 5.1 certified for Sony Xperia Z3 and Sony Xperia Z3 Compact?

Android 5.1 certified for Sony Xperia Z3 and Sony Xperia Z3 Compact?
Sony might have taken a lot of heat for being so late to update its current flagship phone. But the manufacturer apparently isn't taking any chances when it comes to Android 5.1. New firmware has been certified for both the Sony Xperia Z3 and Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. The new firmware version is 23.2.A.0.278.

While the new firmware isn't explicitly listed as being Android 5.1, Sony Xperia Z3 and Sony Xperia Z3 Compact owners would be ecstatic to receive the next update so soon after Android 5.0.2 was pushed out for the two models. That took place on March 16th. As of now, the new firmware has been certified for the Xperia Z3 D6653 and Xperia Z3 Compact D5833 models only.

The Android 5.1 update brings longer battery life and improvements to the 64-bit ART compiler, which should allow apps to open faster. Other improvements will be seen in RAM management and system stability. Lost and stolen devices won't work until the owner types in his Google password, even if the phone is factory reset. And issues that users have had with the "Okay Google" phrase that initiates Google Voice Search are fixed with the update.

Keep in mind though that even if this new firmware is Android 5.1, there still could be other testing required before the latest and greatest Android build actually reaches the Sony Xperia Z3 and Sony Xperia Z3 Compact.

Thanks for the tip!

Yeah I've heard too that for Z2 lollipop there's no memory leak either but still will wait for 5.1 update. I'm used to kitkat for now.

Cool story, but what exactly do the Z2 & Note 4 have to do with the Z3 & Z3 compact getting 5.1?

You can argue that the Z2 and the Z3 may have some connection..... I can't imagine what it is though. But yeah I guess their post is somewhat off topic

tell me the difference between the z3 and z2 ? nothing sony product in general are great but the experia line are just not that good sorry but that is the truth and im sorry if my point of view and the experience i had make you crazy

I'm actually a Note 4 owner, so believe me--nothing about your post made me "crazy". The point is that your post has nothing to do with the phones in the article getting the 5.1 update. Get a clue.

Z3 is rounder and has a better battery life also it has a different camera sensor the ac version 801 better stereo speakers a colder calibrated screen with higher brightnes. High res sound dsee. So enough to make it better than the z2 but imo only worth the upgrade if you like music or the design.

Nice Sony!

I'm in no rush to get Lollipop for my z3. It's a smashing phone as is. I'd rather Sony released a 100% stable version of lollipop than a buggy as hell one..

It's actually good. The design is a lot better, and some added functionalities are nice to have (notifications on the lock screen, tabs in app switching screen, ...) Just the app retention seems to be not as good as on kitkat

I got lollipop last week and I'm happy to report no bugs. Kit Kat was great, but Lollipop on the Z3 is amazing! I love it so far and it nice that it's very close to stock. My only con is they got rid of the clear all option for recent apps. This was a nice addition that I wish stock Android would include.

I don't care about the 16 GB internal since it has micro SD. I do agree high prices are nonsense though

High price? Compare to S6 and iphone 6 they're still freakin higher in my region you can buy z3c at almost $450 off contract, some online retailer sell it for $400. The funny thing is that all this flagship phones can do the same thing but ip certified is a must in my region due to constant raining.
