Verizon commences Android 2.1 update for the HTC Droid Eris

In standard fashion, it looks like Verizon has placed the green lights on the Android 2.1 over-the-air update for the HTC Droid Eris. Just yesterday we reported on how the update was expected to be slowly release, but now it's looking like it'll follow a similar path like others before it. The gradual roll out begins with 1,000 owners receiving the update while an additional 9,000 more will see it head their way tomorrow. As long as there aren't any major problems that arise from it, Verizon is planning to fully release this update to all HTC Droid Eris owners by May 16th. After watching those Motorola DROID owners reap the benefits of Android 2.1, HTC Droid Eris owners will no longer have to sit back and be envious as they will soon all be up-to-date.

Imagine that: Everybody who bought the Eris at about $120 cheaper than the Droid is reaping the benefit of having the EXACT SAME software. Sweet. The Droid does have the better hardware under the hood but...........
