Sony Xperia Z1 press image shows black, white and purple versions
The Sony Xperia Z1 is believed to be the first of a new line of camera-centric models under the 'One Sony' name. The Xperia Z1 features a 20.7MP snapper and will take over Android flagship duties from the Sony Xperia Z. With an f/2.0 aperture, the camera should be able to take viewable pictures even in low-light conditions. And one of the features of the Sony Xperia Z that wowed the crowd back in January at the CES has been included on the Xperia Z1. The new phone will also be water and dust resistant with IP 55/58 certification. That gives the Sony Xperia Z1 a little more protection against water than its predecessor.
With the choice of black, white or purple, which color would you choose for your Sony Xperia Z1?
Thanks, Anonymous Tipster!

looks like an upgraded Xperia Z! same old design, only specs improvments!! ain't enough Sony...

So same with the transition from S3 to S4. Only that Samsung repeats a forgetable, average design and Sony does so with a classy, expensive design.
20. MistB (Posts: 581; Member since: 07 Jul 2012)
It's the same design dude, I can tell the difference between an S3/S4, plus quit bringing Samsung into every non samsung related article. By doing that you only make that brand look more popular, as with Apple.

I'am a sony fans, always purchased vaio laptop, but this Z1 is a meh... I like those purple color, but those thick bezel is so lame, reminds me of nokia 3310... It will be obsolete before 2014...
I've been waiting for this phone and it's very disappointing...

Lol the fanboys jealous of Samsung are ridiculous. The gs4 has a completely different shape, different color options, different led flash placement, different speaker placement, different pattern, different home button shape, literally different everything including screen size and you morons still find a way to say this crap.
Pretty pathetic actually.
31. Feanor (Posts: 522; Member since: 20 Jun 2012)
And this telephon has different size, different camera placement, different frame in material and treatment, different speaker placement and different ports than the Z, so what are you trying to prove? In essence it is very similar to the Z as the S4 is very similar to the S3. But show this telephon and the S4 to a few people and I guarantee you that 90% will say that the Sony looks more premium and expensive.
And no one is a moron because they believe that Samsung smartphones look cheap and generic. They do.

"Same old design" are you
The first phone that uses
Omnibalance design with skeleton frame is Xperia Z.
And do you know when the Xperia Z officially launched?
43. pritam.paul.360 (Posts: 12; Member since: 14 Feb 2013)
look, we haven't got our hands on this phone yet. so, I don't know how it's gonna 'feel' in the hands. but, when you look at it in the pictures, it looks pretty much similar to the Z...
and what are you tryna mean whether I know when the phone launched? I mean, look at them, the Z, the ZL (I know it's made of plastic) the ZR, the Z Ultra and now the Z1 too? eventually, they look all the same to me!

there's a place called Troll-land, all the negative minded people rest there. its an unfortunate land. But good part is that you aren't distant to it like people would say everyone is distant to hell or heaven. Troll-land is destination for those who decide that path. soon the troll-land will be so packed of all these trolls will be feeding off each other. which i would say is a good thing.

dude, every company have their own signature design for their high end phones.
tell me why is your personal signature is same every time when you sign.
39. james004 (Posts: 486; Member since: 15 May 2013)
Except HTC, they keep changing their CEO, Slogan, signature design.
And you know what, thats actually good!
every company's director board should ask their CEO to resign every 5 years so new ideas can come up and companies can play with new strategy.

Actually i dont have any problem with this press images.., i just dont like the uncomfortable physical state of the Xperia Z with those sharp edges.. So im worried about this given with 'seems to be' larger bezels.
And im disappointed that Sony said that Honami will bring the most beautiful design for it----and now nothing new :)
LOoking 4ward if they already removed the Lags and stutters

+ new Display tech
+ 3100 mah battery
+ Snapdragon 800 proc
+ Better Camera
+ 4k Video recording
+ Metallic frame
What more do u want?
25. heyhi (Posts: 129; Member since: 19 Feb 2013)
just a little less bezel, thats what i want.
49. jb4674 (Posts: 143; Member since: 05 Apr 2013)
You want less bezel, buy a Samsung. The reason this phone has a larger bezel is to allow it to hold its IP 55/58 certification. Personally, I think it looks awesome and more upscale.

all what you have mentioned is internal , have nothing to do with design. except the metallic back that look exactly like the Z glass back but metal . they should have put all these higher spec's in the ZL , which in my opinion is one of the best looking smartphones so far.

Sony leader of innovation, but the only absent thing in Xperia series is the OLED display, it is a necessary key to dominance.
40. james004 (Posts: 486; Member since: 15 May 2013)
Sony doesnt produce much or work towards OLED much at this point. They are still perfecting and extending the life of LCD. Its not that easy to change from one type to another type display. Look at LG, last year they started working with OLED more and right away a samsung and lg war started, cases after cases. Sony needs to buy alot of patents before they even think about working towards more advance OLED. which they probably have done. all these news arent exciting so its not publicly displayed. tech blogs like to show news of apple and samsung only. (more exciting and controversial stuff to get more attention)

The Z is only 6 months old, so how can you call that design old when apple and samsung keep the same design for years?
2. InspectorGadget80 (Posts: 7043; Member since: 26 Mar 2011)
Only 2 1/2 weeks too go till the unveiling can't wait
22. InspectorGadget80 (Posts: 7043; Member since: 26 Mar 2011)

my dad is going to upgrade xperia mini pro to xperia z1 (a.k.a honami)
14. vincelongman (Posts: 2929; Member since: 10 Feb 2013)
Yep this looks like it will be bigger than the Xperia Z, which is already one of the biggest 5" screen phones.
My problem is that the Z1 is too big and the Z1 Mini will be too small (personally I prefer screens to be at least 4.7")
If only the Z1 was the same size as the Xperia ZL, it would have been perfect.
4. yudi.nemesis (Posts: 1127; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
They all look beautiful, classy and elegant.
I had to see it with my own eyes before deciding which one i choose.
6. flynfree (Posts: 374; Member since: 09 Jun 2013)
Sony, you just upgrade the CPU, batt, and some tweak to the display of xperia Z, you better upgrade the zl too.!
9. bootroot (Posts: 35; Member since: 11 Sep 2012)
All phonemaker are doin the same incrementation so dont bash Sony
And wait for release to see if they make a real effort on the photo side.
Cause on the CPU it really FLY (look a the Z ultra it kill EVERY other Android!)
10. anleoflippy (Posts: 538; Member since: 03 Jan 2013)
Bezels are just right to hold the phone securely.
Will wait for it to be official and reviewed before I trade in my ZL. Also, I expected that there's a xenon flash. Oh well, I'm sure LED flash is adequate enough.

i would look so much better in my opinion if the whole device (front and back) were all black, white, or purple instead of having the front black all the time..
29. buccob (Posts: 2165; Member since: 19 Jun 2012)
You might be right, but one of the reasons to use black in front is because it is less distracting when watching a screen... How many recent TVs do you see sporting a different color than black?
46. GeekMovement (Posts: 1997; Member since: 09 Sep 2011)
that's true, good point, although it still degrades the appearance of the white/purple one for me.
i would go for the black one anyway so it's not too much of a problem.
16. oister85 (Posts: 439; Member since: 27 Apr 2012)
I can't wait for this beautiful and beast specially that purple. this phone has the best specs ever water resistance, Walkman sound, 20mp, glass metal build or carbon fiber, good internal speakers, 1080p with Triluminos display, easy connection for ps3 controllers and the best processor for right now.You cant beat those specs. Sony is throwing every thing it has. just bring that phone to all 4 carriers.

Got cha!!!...one of the best phone yet.....
21. Satnamreg (Posts: 29; Member since: 23 Aug 2013)
Going to buy the black one. And then looking forward for Z1 mini.
30. buccob (Posts: 2165; Member since: 19 Jun 2012)
Im on the same boat... I have a trip to Europe in October... and it might be the opportunity to get a new phone... If they release the Z1 Mini by then, I will get that... if not Z1 and then Z1 Mini...
28. Taters (Posts: 5038; Member since: 28 Jan 2013)
If they made the next nexus but a lot smaller than the Xperia Z I would be happy. I hope Google forces them to use an LG, Samsung, or jdi display though.
Sony displays have crap viewing angles because of their tru black screen film.
33. Napalm_3nema (Posts: 1694; Member since: 14 Jun 2013)
The Z Ultra doesn't have poor viewing angles, and this will be the same display.
45. gigaraga (Posts: 1440; Member since: 29 Mar 2013)
Boring phone...thick ugly bezels and design...no thanks..nothing special..it will probably be the same size as the Xperia Z, exactly the same =.=
47. cttan456 (Posts: 62; Member since: 22 Mar 2012)
Sony phones all look the same. Samsung phones all look the same. Nokia phones all look the same. HTC phones all look the same. iPhones all look the same. Nothing wrong with that!
