Samsung officially confirms that the Galaxy S III flagship won't be unveiled at MWC this month
Putting a lid on speculations, Samsung has said in a statement that the sequel to its Samsung Galaxy S II won't be announced during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month, but rather at a special, independent event.

The timeframe given for said Galaxy S III event is the first half of the year, which can mean anything from right after MWC, to June, a little bit before the phone is available for sale worldwide.

Here is the full statement that will tear the heart of every Android aficionado worldwide, and force them to load up in the patience department:

Samsung is looking forward to introducing and demonstrating exciting new mobile products at Mobile World Congress 2012. The successor to the Galaxy S2 smartphone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product... Samsung stays committed to providing the best possible mobile experiences for customers around the world.

Thus Samsung's thunder at the MWC might actually be the rumored Galaxy Tab slate with the 2560x1600 screen and blazing fast Exynos processor. We agree that the Galaxy S III deserves a special independent unveiling, that will put the spotlight exclusively on it, we just don't agree on the waiting part.

I was hoping they unveiled it at MWC. But as long as the U.S. doesn't get there's 6 months later.

Waiting sure does suck when the wait involves an amazing smartphone, but at least a person can wait while knowing the specs and how the phone looks like.

The wait's KILLING meeee.....

Samsung must not show Galaxy SIII in public until it is in store and read to sale. And fix all the bugs and others problems before the customers complains and upset. I wished it is aluminum and very thin 7 mm.

You need thin 7mm or battery 3500 mAh?.

having seen motorola's done it spectacularly well, gone now the days of replacing the battery cover with the ugly bulky bricky one for having a 3500mah in. i'll take battery over thinnes everytime...samsung, as themselves said, should keep that promise of outing their handsets with beautiful designs and longer-lasting battery.

I think is a great thing it gives then time to prepare a much wider launch and polish TW even more

though im dying to see it, i have to agree. many peeps might not remember but when they showed the SGS2 for the first time last year, it wasnt really ready for prime time.

im less concerned about the world unveiling than I am about the world (aka, the US lol) launch. It better be a spring/summer launch and not a christmas launch darn it! :)

Hmmm...I think Sony will win this MWC like it dominated CES.

Is this going to be the quad-core one? I really hope it is. I'm amazed to see how FAST our technology has been advancing in the 21st century. I've become a believer that anything is possible now, even functional jetpacks lol

I dont see why Samsung couldn't use the Apple approach of marketing here, by not talking about it...
just to keep the surprise element

15. InternetsTroll posted on 01 Feb 2012, 08:07 1

That's lame

16. ilia1986 posted on 01 Feb 2012, 08:42 1 1

So what - EVERYTHING that Apple does is a golden standard now?

Maybe Samsung should buy the water flushed at the Cupertino toilets (99.99$ a gallon, refurbished). That should instantly improve the quality of their marketing department.

Its a damn shame the upcoming note for att is going to have the s3 in it. Its going to be difficult, but I'm confident I can wait a couple more months for this bad mama jama lol

Samsung is gonna release samsung galaxy s3 with apple iphone 5. So it can challenge apple directly in a one on one fight. Though i am not waiting for it. Cause i like sony/lg.

How do you figure this when the idrone 5 won't be out until Q4? Personally, I kinda like the idea of beatingt them to the punch. Sony has a great design and look, hopefully with the take over of Ericsson they can make a run at the top dogs but as of right now they are mediocre. LG......barely better than RIM! Outside of the Optimus 3d, LG's smartphones have been 10 over par at best. If you ask me, it may be time for Lucky Goldstar to focus their energy back on TV's.

21. ThreeFourSeven posted on 01 Feb 2012, 11:05

I agree that it is better to announce the phone when its closer to production. I see no point announcing it now for me to wait 6 to 8 months to get it.

ITS GETTING CLOSER! CANT WAIT till they reveal the GS III even if its not @the MWC
