Is the Google Nexus 9 in this box? (It is!) HTC's Jeff Gordon says something amazing and highly confidential is inside
Google's quite anticipated Nexus 9 tablet is reportedly being unveiled on October 15, however, Mountain View has been extremely mum on whether it's holding a press event tomorrow. Well, it seems that the manufacturer behind the upcoming Nexus slate – HTC – is having a rather hard time keeping the beans in one place. The Senior Global Online Communications Manager of HTC, Jeff Gordon, tweeted an image of a sealed-tight cardboard box and claimed that “something amazing, beautiful and highly confidential just arrived.”

Then again, we can't say for sure if a Nexus 9 or two can be found in Jeff Gordon's plain cardboard box, but provided that HTC already announced a slew of new devices a few days ago and purportedly has nothing else in the pipeline besides the Nexus 9, we can assume that both HTC and Google are gearing up towards the official announcement of the slate.

The rumor mill has it that the Nexus 9 will be powered by the 64-bit Nvidia Tegra K1 SoC, which comprises a dual-core Denver processor and a 192-core Kepler GPU, a super high-res 9” Quad HD display at the front, and most probably 3GB of RAM. Google might ask for $399 for the tablet – a higher price than previous Nexus slates, but then again, we might be dealing with a potential powerhouse of a tablet here. It can't arrive any sooner.

Update: Well, it turned out that we got it right and the Google Nexus 9 was indeed the highly-confidential device inside Jeff Gordon's cardboard box.

I have to admit, this new Google Nexus 9 has peaked my interest just as much as the Google Nexus 6 or X.

Man, for me this year I am buying a Google Nexus 6 or X & a Google Nexus 9 for me, & for my wife it will be the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, since she just got the Samsung Galaxy S5.

It's going to be a jolly holiday season this year! lol

No s**t. This site has an amazing propensity for taking a single oblique statement and packaging it up with rumors they've published over and over in older posts as "news".

it better be the 64bit (denver) K1.. and Nvidia better keep their promise about the drivers support.. i wonder if this could run dolphin emulator if it were optimised for it.. looking forward to see what it can handle :)

Bad comparison, that was 2 years ago, that's mostly irrelevant now
Also times have changed, right now at least, Nvidia is far ahead of Qualcomn
Unless if the 810 ready right, which doesnt seem likely since other phones are still have the 805/801
Also since many of the Nexus 7(2013) issues were also due to the cheap memory ASUS used
And since Google needs a device for devs to test their 64-bit apps on

Yeah let it be a snapdragon so Qualcomm can monopolize the market even more and we get a Snapdragon 800 rehash 2 (AKA S805). I seriously hope other manufacturers show Qualcomm they are not allowed to sit their asses while the competition is smacking them in performance and they are still getting all the costumers. We are in 2014 using rehashes of a 2013 SoC because of this stupid monopoly meanwhile Nvidia is making huge leaps in performance with each generation of their SoC... Oh well.

Three words for you: Nvidia Shield Tablet. This thing is mopping the floor with the K1 inside of it. Put it in an aluminum chassis (Better thermal envelope), and you will have a monster. This will be my first Nexus tablet purchase if the leaks pan out.

But that tablet means the release of Android L/5.0 or whatever they call it
Which is easily the biggest ever Android update
So it is a big deal IMO

No, the Nexus tablets are usually pretty good, and the software is amazing. Still, who gets that worked up over a cardboard box? I know HTC was going to make the 9, but really.

Hey PA, I've got a picture of a bunch of electrical cords in a drawer - no shots of the connectors though - maybe you can speculate on whether or not they'll charge a Nexus 9...
