What Samsung is putting in the refurbished Galaxy S26 box

Samsung announced the additions in a Samsung Newsroom post today. Certified Re-Newed phones are used units that Samsung's own engineers take apart, clean, and rebuild using only genuine Samsung parts, and every one gets a brand-new battery before it goes back in the box.

All three models come in the same six colors as the new phones, and the software side is unchanged, so you still get the seven promised OS upgrades and the full Galaxy AI set. Here is how the pricing breaks down:

  • Galaxy S26 Certified Re-Newed starts at $759
  • Galaxy S26+ Certified Re-Newed starts at $929
  • Galaxy S26 Ultra Certified Re-Newed starts at $1,099

The phones are exclusive to Samsung.com, you can trade in an old device for up to $720 in credit, and Samsung Care+ with Theft and Loss can be added on top if you want the $0 screen and back glass repairs and unlimited battery replacements.

How the refurbished Galaxy S26 Ultra price compares to buying new

The savings work out to about $141 on the S26, $171 on the S26+, and $201 on the Ultra against the $899.99, $1,099.99, and $1,299.99 launch prices, or roughly 15 to 16 percent across the board. That matters a little more this year, because the S26 and S26+ both came in $100 higher than their predecessors back in February.

However, the timing is also interesting. Samsung's own offers page shows a $200 straight discount on a new S26 Ultra that ran through yesterday, September 13, which put a brand-new Ultra at $1,099.99, or basically the same money Samsung now wants for the refurbished one. The refurb store opened for the S26 the day after that promo ended, which I'm assuming is not a coincidence.

Trade-in credit is the other thing to watch. Samsung is quoting up to $720 on both the Re-Newed phones and, as of our last Galaxy S26 deals check, the new ones too, so a maxed-out trade puts a refurbished Ultra at $379 versus about $580 for a new one. The Re-Newed discount is real, but it only stays ahead of Samsung's regular promos for as long as those promos aren't running, and with Samsung they tend to come back like clockwork.

Who should buy a Certified Re-Newed Galaxy S26

If you were already planning to buy an S26 Ultra outright with no trade-in, this is the cheapest Samsung itself has offered one since launch, and the new battery and full warranty take most of the risk out of buying used. If you have a decent phone to trade, the gap narrows to about $200, so it's worth checking what Samsung is offering on the new model that week before you commit.

A current flagship in the refurb store is the part I like

Either way, it's nice to see a current flagship show up in the refurbished lineup while it's still current. Sure, the discount is modest next to a good promo week, but the new battery and warranty are the reasons I'd point a friend at this over a random marketplace listing.

Hopefully the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 get the same treatment before the year is out, because a like-new foldable with a fresh battery and a full warranty is the kind of deal I'd recommend without much hesitation.
