With the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro barely out, the flurry of rumors about next year’s slab flagship iPhone is only intensifying. Earlier leaks about the anniversary iPhone 20 suggested that it will come with a radical redesign, but that may not be the case after all.
The iPhone 20 Pro will reportedly retain the selfie camera hole
This rumor is in stark contrast with earlier claims for an all-glass design that would offer a full-screen experience. Despite the camera hole, Apple may still use curved glass that edges around the corners of the phone so it feels like it’s made of glass only.

Why would the iPhone 20 Pro skip on the under-display camera?

Though Digital Chat Station doesn’t go into any specific detail about the hole on the iPhone 20 Pro’s display or the reason for having this design, this move would make sense. Apple’s first under-display camera was presented in the iPhone Duo, but its performance was far from impressive.
In his in-depth review of the iPhone Duo, my colleague Victor said that hiding the camera was a good call because it’s unlikely that many people would use it, considering the ergonomics of the device. However, he also thought the picture quality from the 4MP sensor was much worse than what the camera on the external display offered. If it wasn’t for the people who use FaceTime with the internal display opened, Apple could have completely removed this camera.

Unlike the foldable, the iPhone 20 Pro won’t have multiple displays to put multiple cameras in, leaving no alternative to a potential under-screen camera. That’s why the selfie camera performance is much more important than on the iPhone Duo.
Still a long way to go before the iPhone 20 Pro launches
I never understood people’s complaints from Apple’s notch and Dynamic Island, nor from the punch-hole cameras on other phones. It usually takes me a couple of days to stop noticing these details and just use my phone. I’d still like to see a change to the look of the anniversary iPhone, but keeping the Dynamic Island won’t be such a disappointment.
Of course, there are at least 10 months before the premiere of the iPhone 20, so many things could change in the next few months, so there’s still a chance to get something more interesting than a smaller Dynamic Island.
