Apple's first-ever affordable laptop, the MacBook Neo, was a huge success. While the jury is still out on whether the brand's latest iPad will enjoy the same level of attention, Cupertino is reportedly already gearing up for a much bigger MacBook Neo launch in 2027.

Prominent leaker Lanzuk claims that Apple is already making preparations for the launch of its MacBook Neo 2nd Gen. Reportedly, the company is planning to double the mass production of the upcoming device.
For reference, Apple projected shipments of about eight million of its first-ever MacBook Neo. So, if this leak proves accurate, Cupertino may be expecting to ship more than 16 million second-gen models in the first half of 2027 alone.

Shortly after Apple launched the Macbook Neo in March 2026, then-CEO Tim Cook took to X to celebrate its success. Indeed, many users who bought the first-gen $599 laptop seem happy with their decision, judging by posts on Reddit.
Mac just had its best launch week ever for first-time Mac customers. We love seeing the enthusiasm!

For some users, the Neo is the perfect starter laptop, offering considerably better overall value than similarly priced Chromebooks. Others say it's also a great option for kids.
But then, some Apple enthusiasts say the Neo is making way too many compromises to justify its price tag, especially in relation to the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro.
The MacBook Neo 2 is still pretty much a mystery

Apple is well known for keeping its upcoming devices well under wraps, so the MacBook Neo 2's specs are pretty much a total mystery at this stage. Well, to be honest, the rumor mill has it that the second-gen model could debut with more RAM, possibly 12GB, and an A19 Pro chip. Still, I think it's too early to take those leaks at face value.
As I see it, it might just be suitable for the average user, especially if it debuts with more RAM while keeping the same asking price as the first-gen option.
