Yeah, I get it. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max both were officially released just last Friday, and already I have information to pass along pertaining to next year's iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max. That's just the nature of being a writer covering the iPhone beat. Ever since Steve Jobs' masterclass in new product announcements held on January 9, 2007, the iPhone has become the most extensively covered consumer device in the world.
We are already thinking about the iPhone 20 Pro and Pro Max
No, you are not losing your mind, nor are you missing a finger or toe. Since last week, Apple unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, next year's models should be called the iPhone 19 Pro and iPhone 19 Pro Max. However, 2027 will be the 20th anniversary of the iPhone and Apple would prefer to celebrate by calling the 2027 models "iPhone 20" leapfrogging over the iPhone 19 name.
Apple plans to skip the iPhone 19 Pro line
Surely you remember Apple doing the same thing with the iPhone X in 2017. Try looking for our review of the iPhone 9. You won't find it because no such model ever existed. As for the iPhone 20 line, there have been rumors about a major redesign with a quad-curved display that wraps around all four edges. Face ID and the front-facing camera are expected to be under the display.
Additionally, we could see a bezel-free design and solid state buttons with haptic feedback. According to Bloomberg, the design for the iPhone 20 Pro and Pro Max is basically finalized. Tipster Ice Universe, known more for his Samsung Galaxy leaks, has some information about the iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max.

According to a tweet from the tipster, the iPhone 20 Pro Max will feature a 6.96-inch display with a resolution of 1340 x 2912. That compares to the 6.86-inch display on the iPhone 18 Pro Max with a resolution of 1320 x 2868.

Other rumored specs and features for the 2027 Pro iPhone models
Ice Universe says that the iPhone 20 Pro will feature 6.41-inch screen with a resolution of 1236 x 2686. The just-released iPhone 18 Pro has a 6.27-inch screen with a resolution of 1206 x 2622. The iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max will both be powered by the Apple A21 Pro chipset.
Next year's iPhone Pro models could be equipped with 12GB to 16GB of RAM. There is speculation that Apple is considering the use of High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), which is the memory chip being produced by Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron for AI data centers. HBM uses a vertically stacked DRAM architecture, which creates massive improvements in bandwidth and efficiency.
As for the battery used to power the iPhone 20 Pro Max, the early speculation is calling for a 6,000mAh battery compared to 5,567mAh on the US variant of the iPhone 18 Pro Max. It woiulkd be the largest battery ever found inside an iPhone. Apple is also thinking about replacing the current lithium-ion cells with pure silicon technology. Combine this with the second-generation 2nm process node for the A21 Pro chipset, and the Apple C3 modem, and battery life could be very impressive on next year's top-of-the-line iPhone model.
Because of the higher profits the chip manufacturers can score with HBM over RAM, the chipmakers are building HBM chips at the expense of RAM production. This has caused the current RAM shortage that has led prices of the component to soar 70% year-over-year. That is why smartphone prices are on the rise this year.
We still have a long way to go before the iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max are released and we surely will see many more rumors and renders to come.
