So, the demand for the new, passport-like, wider-than-taller Galaxy Z Fold 8 is so high that Samsung has to come up with a new plan. Per the latest information, the Korean giant is now "forced" to make 1 million additional Z Fold 8 units sooner than anticipated.

This means that Samsung will have to find the needed materials and components as soon as possible, too.

How big of a hit are we talking about?

As we reported mere hours ago, Samsung's latest foldable lineup is off to a remarkably strong start. The unchallenged star of the trio is the passport-looking Galaxy Z Fold 8.

According to the always credible Counterpoint Research, this new model dominated early sales, securing 70% of pre-orders in South Korea, nearly half of the total in the US and roughly 40% in Europe. It also captured the top spot across Japan, China and Southeast Asia, leaving the pricier Z Fold 8 Ultra to lead only in India.

Analysts project that strong demand will extend beyond the pre-order period, with first-year shipments expected to double those of the previous Z Fold 7 generation. Additionally, total sales for the series are forecasted to grow over 70% compared to the older Z Fold 6. This surge only goes to prove that Samsung has finally struck gold with a mainstream-appealing form factor for foldable smartphones.

Or, you know, that's just a panic buy

The AI bubble hasn't burst yet (maybe it will, maybe it won't). This means two things:

• We'll be consuming way more AI slop in the near future
• Memory and storage chip prices will continue to soar

Joking aside, the chip shortage could extend to 2028 and what this means is that we'll be facing some

So, perhaps people have figured this out, too—and they've chosen to get the $1,900 Galaxy Z Fold 8 while they can. Why pay (way) more for a mostly similar Z Fold 9 in 2027 if the price hikes are inevitable?
