Samsung's new foldable lineup is off to an impressive start. A few days ago, Samsung itself shared some real numbers to show just how well the new lineup was selling.
But now, a Counterpoint Research report gives us even more insight into how the series performed across various markets, as well as which model is the clear favorite among buyers.

While Samsung released three models this year, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Z Fold 8, and Z Flip 8, only one of those has emerged as the absolute fan favorite in several key markets, according to new analysis.
A Counterpoint Research insight published on August 7, 2026, shows that the passport-style Z Fold 8 accounted for roughly 70% of all pre-orders in South Korea, almost 50% in the US, and around 40% in Europe.
The model is also leading in Japan, Southeast Asia, and China. That said, pre-order data shows the Z Fold 8 Ultra is leading in India, accounting for about 60% of pre-bookings.

What do you think is driving the Galaxy Z Fold 8's success?
The numbers make perfect sense

Though, I have to say, I didn't expect it would perform so well in so many regions. The Z Fold 8's success in multiple markets clearly shows that this form factor is exciting for foldable fans. And with only one market being dominated by the standard Ultra, I think the passport-style device can easily end up being the best-selling Samsung foldable.
Looking forward

Clearly, Samsung's foldables are showing strong early success. But Counterpoint Research predicts that demand will remain higher than with previous generations even beyond the pre-order period.
The company estimates total shipments for the series in the first year after launch can double the Z Fold 7 while growing by more than 70% compared to the Z Fold 6 series.
The beginning of a new phase
If the success of the Z Fold 8 teaches us anything, it's that Samsung may have finally found the winning formula that could propel its foldables to the next level.
While Samsung has spent year after year refining the design, it appears that the company may have finally found a form factor that appeals to mainstream users. If that's the case, we can definitely expect a successor next year.
